Image quality at 35mm and of macros is really stunning! It is as good or perhaps a little better then the IQ of the G9! Some pictures in good light are unbelievable near as good as with the canon 40d with a good objective (17-55 f2.8 IS or 100 f/28 macro). Reading a lot reviews and comparing pictures on the web, the Ixus 960 IS is by far the ultracompact with the best IQ on the market (at 35mm and in good light condition so you can shot at 80 ISO). Very important as with all cameras is to compensate the exposure to avoid over or bad exposure (check it with the histogram, esp. the channel for red colors, red colors are often overexposed). For this I could attribute the function "exposure compensation" to the print button to have quick access. In comparison wit the Fuji F30 ( mine is now broken) the pictures are better in good light and in macro mode. In low light the F30 was of course better, but not as much if you look the pictures at the same size and not at 100%. The camera could react faster and of course action pictures are difficult ore impossible to achieve, but this is the case of all compacts. The F30 was here a little better. I buy the Ixus 960 IS instead of the Fuji 50fd or 100fd because the pictures I have seen of these cameras were not convincing (artifacts in structures like grass, poor dynamic range, color accuracy and white balance by far not as good as with the 960 IS). The camera is highly recommended to everyone who wants ultimate IQ at 35mm and for macros in good light.
