Pentax K20D (body only)

Impressive performance, 14 megapixels at a relatively low price; weather sealed; nice control layout; wireless flash control.

Slightly inaccurate colors; shake reduction could be more effective.

Pentax's 14MP K20D is a great choice for a midlevel SLR and offers a lot of bang for the buck.

Photo gallery: Pentax K20D In case you haven't been paying close attention to the digital SLR market lately, there's been a shift toward CMOS sensors. Though Pentax has stuck with CCD for its entry-level K200D SLR, they have moved to a...

Pentax K20D First Impressions Review

By Emily Raymond

Take a look at the Pentax K20D The Pentax K20D is a new digital SLR that follows the K10D with several dramatic changes. As Pentax's flagship DSLR, the K20D has a 14.6-megapixel CMOS sensor with a few more megapixels than its predecessor. The new mode...

- Fast AF system - Accepts all Pentax lenses - Comfortable hand grip - PC sync socket - Water-resistant - Longer battery life

- Live view LCD blacks out when focusing - Grainy optical viewfinder - Lengthy, verbose menus - Confusing placement of features

The 14.6-megapixel Pentax K20D has a lot going for it. It has a water-resistant camera body that is durable and tightly sealed and is backwards compatible with Pentax lenses.

Pentax K20D Review

By Richard Butler

Award: Highly Recommended!

The feature changes between the K10D and K20D are subtle but this is mainly because there was little that the K10D needed adding to its pretty formidable features list. The changes that have been made are:

Excellent image quality at low ISO settings, Image quality still good as ISO 1600, Ergonomics up with the best of the best, Large and bright Pentaprism viewfinder (0.95x magnification), Robust body with dust and weather seals, high build quality, Accurate...

Continuous shooting rate slow by modern standards, Hot pixels can occur and can't be automatically removed, Noise reduction cannot be raised as high as the competition, Live view mode adds very little to the camera (it is neither seamless nor able to usef...

The Pentax K20D could be seen as a K10D Mk2, a camera that attempts to move on while putting right the minor flaws in its predecessor.

Pentax K20D review

By Gordon Laing

The Pentax K20D is certainly a powerful and capable DSLR. It inherits an impressive core specification from its predecessor which includes a dust and weather-resistant body, built-in Shake Reduction, a decent optical viewfinder, innovative exposure modes,...

Highly detailed images across ISO range., Built-in Shake Reduction., Dust and weatherproof body., Broad degree of customisation.,

Basic Live View system., Anti-shake not as effective as rivals., Semi-pro pricing, but not as quick or tough., Tendency to underexpose.,

Pentax has certainly made a number of improvements over the already very capable K10D, which in turn makes the K20D a powerful and feature-packed DSLR. The biggest and most important is of course the sensor, with the K20D delivering the most detailed imag...

Pentax K20D First Impressions

By Wesley Fink

The highest resolution DSLR you can buy for less than $8000 is now shipping. Does the $1299 14.6 megapixel K20D live up to expectations?

The Pentax K20D has the highest resolution available in an APS-C sensor SLR. It is 20% higher resolution than the new Sony A700/Nikon D300 Sony sensor pair at 12.2 MP and almost 50% higher than the Canon 40D. Those are numbers that are hard to ignore

Pentax K20D Review

By JerryJ

When Pentax announced the K10D back in 2006, serious amateurs and professionals quickly started paying attention. The K10D was more rugged and feature-packed than any Pentax digital SLR before it. In 2008, the company decided to update their line with the...

Excellent build quality, Larger release tabs for SDHC cover and battery cover, X-sync port for studio strobes, Nice resolution increase, Still uses great in-camera Shake Reduction, Compatible with every Pentax lens!

No significant speed increase over K10D (unless you count low-res 20fps mode), Questionable ISO improvement over K10D, Live View mode is useless for moving subjects, Confusing noise reduction menu

FORM, FIT, AND FEELStyling and Build QualityThe K20D is a slightly chunky very traditional looking DSLR that is virtually identical to the K10D. (view large image)As a semi-pro body, the K20D is larger and heavier than entry level DSLRs, and the...
