iWork '09

Interface tweaks make commonly used features more accessible. Flashy, eye-catching presentations are even easier to make. iWork apps play well together with added interoperability across the suite

Still no business-grade e-mail client. iWork.com Web component doesn't allow for true collaboration. The lack of an auto save feature is a particularly problematic omission we hope to see in future releases

Intuitive interface design and easy access to useful features make iWork the best office suite choice on the Mac. Though it lacks some of Microsoft Office's advanced options, iWork '09 is an emerging powerhouse in its own right.

Like previous versions--to calm Windows-to-Mac switcher anxiety--iWork files are fully compatible with its Microsoft Office counterparts. iWork '09 also introduces iWork.com public beta, a new Web service. Setup and Interface As in the previous...

Apple iWork '08

The new Numbers spreadsheet software rounds off this suite, which offers attractive and intuitive interfaces ; solid new features for image editing, page layout and printing ; applications integrate well with each other, with iWeb, and with Apple ...

Apple iWork '08 lacks an e-mail application ; pivot tables and Visual Basic macros not supported

Although Microsoft Office 2007 offers deeper features, particularly for number crunchers, Apple iWork '08 is a strong Mac productivity package and a pleasure to use.

Photo gallery: Apple iWork '08 The $79 iWork '08 is a solid deal for anyone needing an affordable office suite for the Mac. Setup and interface The system requirements of iWork '08, thankfully, are gentle to users of older Macs. Its features...

Apple iLife '08

Apple iLife '08 applications have elegant interfaces, integrate well, and tie into .Mac, iTunes, and YouTube accounts. iPhoto nicely organizes pictures by events, iMovie is drag-and-drop simple, and GarageBand offers more controls

iMovie's radical rebuild omits features for precision edits ; must pay for .Mac account to make the most of iPhoto

Apple iLife '08 is a fine, affordable media-editing suite that should keep beginners and hobbyists happy when managing pictures, videos, songs, and podcasts, but those seeking to fine-tune movies should look elsewhere.

Photo gallery: Apple iLife '08 Apple is touting what it calls the biggest changes to iLife in more than five years. iPhoto gets some nice ease-of-use adjustments; iMovie changes radically from its predecessor; and the most obvious addition to......

iWork '09

By Edward Mendelson

Apple has a lot to boast about in iWork '09, the latest version of its productivity application suite and still the only one written from the ground up for OS X. Keynote, still the most dazzling presentation program on any platform, now offers ...

Innovative, graphically dazzling suite. Highly compatible with Microsoft Office documents. Canvas-style page holds multiple tables. Presentation software outclasses competitors. Great bang for the buck

Not as feature-rich as Microsoft Office. Sample templates too elaborate for most users. No view that hides top, bottom page margins

Apple's productivity suite isn't yet a replacement for Microsoft Office for the Mac, but iWork '09 offers a terrific set of programs for light word processing and medium-to-heavy spreadsheet use. And the stellar Keynote presentation app leaves the ...

Apple has also put a toe into the online-document world by launching iWork.com, a sparsely featured sharing and viewing service that lets iWork users share documents with users on any platform, including Windows and Linux. If you're a Windows user...

Invalid character in the given encoding. Line 9, position 32.

Apple iWork '08 Keynote is an affordable PowerPoint alternative with some very slick tricks.

Apple iWork '08 Keynote DownsidesThe downside to Keynote is its user interface, which ties in well with other Mac programs but may confuse recent arrivals from the Windows world. Keynote is a slick presentation tool that makes up one-third of...

iLife '08 Review

By Joshua Goldman

Great new features ; excellent value ; iMovie redesigned for novices ; lots of new options for .Mac members

Full use of suite requires $99-per-year .Mac membership ; fans of the older iMovie HD may not like redesign ; iMovie has heavy system requirements

The iLife '08 multimedia-software suite offers great bang for your buck, especially if you're a .Mac subscriber.

Thankfully, iLife '08 continues the tradition, offering useful tools for creating and editing images, video, music, and Web sites. Apple's iLife multimedia-software suite has long been a key selling point for the company's computers. Along with...
