High-quality video ; solid performance ; electronic viewfinder ; full manual feature set
Touch screen not responsive enough
A very good prosumer HD camcorder, the Panasonic HDC-HS300 still isn't as good a deal as the similarly featured but flash-based TM300 and has the same annoying touch-screen interface.
Photos: Panasonic HDC-HS300 Panasonic's trio of top-of-the-prosumer-line HD camcorders--the flash-based HDC-TM300, and hard-drive-based HDC-HS300 and HDC-HS250--in many ways vastly improve over older models such as the HS100 and SD100. Panasonic...
Panasonic's HDC-HS300 is capable of extraordinary video quality and offer a good range of manual options, with manual lens ring controls that are as easy to use as they are capable.
Excellent picture quality even in low light; built-in storage capacity; good range of manual controls
Interface can be confusing; build quality not as good as some rivals; wind noise
The HDC-HS300 also offers a maximum AVCHD video recording resolution of 1920-by-1080 at 17Mbps, which looks a lot lower than the 24Mbps that Canon uses is similarly-priced camcorders. The HDC-HS300 includes a lens ring for focusing, and other manual ...
Just like last year's HS100, this HS300 is a very nice-looking, sleek camera. It fits right in the center of the palm and is very easy to shoot with. Weighing in at 1.14 pounds, the HS300 feels light enough to operate as a handheld, while still ...
Manual focus ring Intelligent auto High-resolution stills
Reliance of touchscreen interface
Consumer camera at its best. Offers both manual customization and auto presets to conquer any shooting scenario.

Great architecture. Chock full of ports. Enhanced manual controls
Mediocre video quality and poor photo quality. Terrible AC adapter and DC input setup. LCD screen is too small
Across the board, the interface had us stymied. Take the e-mail client, for instance. While typing a message, you can delete a character by pressing "back" or "Del." But if you want to delete an entire message, you have to use the left soft key, which ...
Packed with a 120GB internal hard drive, HD video capability, and a host of controls and features, the HDC-HS300 (MSRP $1399) represents Panasonic's top-of-the-line camcorder for 2009. The most surprising facet of the camcorder was its test results, ...
Panasonic implemented a new touchscreen LCD system on a number of camcorders this year, including the HDC-HS300. While touchscreens are often shunned by pro and advanced users, they are generally liked by amateurs. The touchscreen on the HDC-HS300 is ...
A video camera lives or dies by its optics. A poor-quality model (think: the Flip for about $100, or a no-name brand at Best Buy) is a real disappointment in terms of resolution and...
Good color quality ; manual zoom and focus ; records in 1080p ; light and portable ; great 24p options
Not quite prosumer ; small LCD screen ; few scene modes ; non-standard HDMI port
The HDC-HS300 is the top-of-the-line high definition camcorder from Panasonic coming for 2009. As with last year's HDC-HS100 and HDC-SD100, Panasonic is providing users with plenty of bells and whistles for experienced videophiles: a viewfinder, lens ...

It's slightly let down by a rather annoying touchscreen interface, but the Panasonic HDC-HS300 compensates for that by shooting excellent 1080p high-definition video, recorded to its 120GB hard drive. It also offers solid performance and a full set of ...

Panasonic's pair of top-of-the-prosumer-line high-definition camcorders -- the £900 hard-drive-based HDC-HS300 and the £850 flash-based HDC-TM300 -- in many ways vastly improve over older models like the HDC-HS100 and HDC-SD100. Panasonic has...
