Panasonic SDR-H250

Panasonic brings a 3CCD hard drive camcorder to the table with the SDR-H250. It helpfully provides an option to record to a memory card and it offers many useful scene modes, but it will struggle to keep up with hi-def models

Hard drive/memory card combination ; superb Leica lens ; easy creative features

Average video in standard def ; no viewfinder ; ugly photos

Panasonic arrives at the hard drive party just as everyone is leaving for the hi-def shindig up the road. The H250 has a lot to recommend it today -- notably a great lens, flexible storage and usable manual features -- but it'll soon look as quaint ...

You'll be able to buy the SDR-H250 from May, and at the time of writing Panasonic hadn't decided on a price, but as a guide, rival products retails for between £500 and £600. This is Panasonic's first hard disk model, and it's hoping that by...

SimplyDV Review: Panasonic SDR-H250 HDD/SDHC Camcorder

By CB

Unless you've been living on the moon for the last couple of years you'll know that tape and even DVD is giving way to camcorders that record to hard disc and solid-state media. Panasonic's SDR-H280 offers both.

Ok, let's be realistic. At a point in the evolution of home video when everything is leaning towards high definition very quickly (as witnessed by Panasonic's own offerings), the SDR-H280 isn't a high-def camcorder. It's a standard definition model ...

Panasonic SDR-H250

With a 30GB hard disk and the option to record video to SD cards, does this 'hybrid' cut the mustard?

The Panasonic SDR-H250 is not a camcorder which will appeal to the video enthusiast, despite its trio of CCDs and comprehensive manual controls. The lack of audio inputs and accessory shoe discount it for anything other than its target market. The ...

The SDR-H250 is another of Panasonic's unfeasibly low-priced three-CCD models. Although Panasonic has been putting the majority of its attention into Secure Digital as the next-generation recording format after tape, it isn't putting all its eggs...

Panasonic SDR-H250

For a first camcorder with a hard drive, the SDR-H250 is a good product. It offers a comfortable grip, manual functioning and interesting image quality. However, if compactness is not a priority, the Sony DCR-SR190 produces more detailed images.

- Records on the hard drive and memory cards, - Nice colors

- LCD has rather small viewing angles, - No viewfinder, - Very limited wide angle, - No micro or headphone jack

The camcorder's compact design makes it a really comfortable and handy unit to use

Versatile storage options, Easy to use, Good overall quality

1GB onboard memory, Excellent call quality, Innovative design, Versatile storage options, Easy to use, Good overall quality

Small screen, Sluggish scroll wheel, Poor camera, Not HD

A generous set of user-friendly features together with its combined ability to shoot either to SDHC cards or HDD in impressive widescreen makes this camcorder the obvious choice for upgraders who aren't quite ready to make the leap to HD quite yet

This is Panasonic's first hard disk model, and it's hoping that by wheeling out its 3CCD technology, it'll be able to compete with the offerings from Sony and JVC. Design The petite, sexy H250 is clearly part of Panasonic's "palmcorder" family. As...
