The CD-8X is built into the usual Cyrus die-cast case
Lively sound ; Good across the board
Can seem unimpressive at first ; Bass lacks oomph
Treble is extended but can sometimes be a little dry, especially with very treble-rich sounds. But at neither extreme is there anything that seems likely to induce listener fatigue or discomfort
The Cyrus CD-8X is approaching the status of an old favourite, having been in the Cyrus catalogue for several years. A useful upgradeEffectively a big transformer in a box, but with some intelligent housekeeping circuitry to make it a complete...
UK hi-fi company Cyrus has a reputation for producing quality gear at a reasonable price. Cyrus equipment is in a league above some of the "budget" items reviewed in AudioEnz but is well below the price of true "high-end" equipment. But it still ...
The CD 8x is a revised version of the original 8. The revisions aim to improve resolution and particularly its stability as a disc transport to go with the matching DAC -X
The CD 8x looks identical to its CD 8 predecessor, but look at the bottom right hand corner of the fascia and the 'x' suffix gives away the fact that this is a new machine, and a significantly different one at that. Even the trademark Cyrus casework...
Solid, three-dimensional imaging, good sense of timing, twin main outputs, ease of upgrade
Flimsy drawer mechanism, no CD-RW replay, busy system remote
Connections extend to two pairs of analogue outputs, coaxial and optical digital outputs for that transport function and phono sockets for the buslink system which allows you to link up a full Cyrus system
The clang the gauntlet made when the CD8se threw it down is still resonating
Staggeringly musical player, with class-leading strengths across the board; upgradeable
Unhelpful loading mechanism
Cyrus have designed their own transport machanism in an attempt to improve the sound
Equally confident with small-and large-scale music, Excellent resolution and imaging, Plays music with conviction
A slight lack of bass impact
It has very natural decay and, perhaps, just a shade less sparkle than some, but is never less than convincing, like most of the player's performance
A CD player that are worth more than money! Nice quiet play, especially by connecting the (optional) PSX-R. The latter makes the sound quieter and provide a better spatial definition .
Very nice sound source, with the PSX-R has better performance .
Unfortunately SACD s no way to play. This is not the philosophy (or budget?) By Cyrus .
