The Ultimate 8502 along with its more expensive brethren, the 9502 (also reviewed on ITP.net), were both released last month and after testing the two extensively, we found the lower cost i-mate was actually the better overall product.
Bright and responsive touchscreen LCD, good battery life, long WiFi range.
Laggy performance, keypad is difficult to use if you've got chubby fingers.
Long battery life and superb WiFi range are the 8502's strongest positives. It also packs a great LCD screen. In the end, this i-mate only struggles because of its laggy performance and keypad.

Not quite everything you could want from a smartphone, but not a bad effort.
The ability to send the screen's contents to a projector could come in handy.
There's no GPS, and it is difficult to use the keyboard quickly.
Not quite everything you could want from a smartphone, but not a bad effort
Size and build quality, keyboard, scroll wheel, HSDPA and HSUPA, Custom and Secure i-Q
2.5mm headphone jack, average display
The Ultimate 8502 is an excellent package wrapped up in a compact and stylish design.
The second smartphone from i-mate to feature HSUPA, the Ultimate 8502 has a feature set similar to the Ultimate 9502 but with the convenience of a much smaller frame. The Ultimate 8502 also offers access to two i-mate developed services - Custom...

The two main differences between the Ultimate 9502 and the 8502, aside from the lack of built-in GPS receiver, are both related to size. The Ultimate 8502 is available exclusively on Telstra's Next G network in Australia and is the second handset...
We have a thorough look at the only device in the Ultimate series without a VGA display.
Compact form factor ; likeable design ; full set of connectivity options ; TV-out for presentations
Lacks user available RAM ; no bundled GPS software ; lower screen resolution compared to rest of its product line
The 8502 does what it's supposed to do and is easy on the eyes though we did wish for more in its software package and customizations.
The four devices in i-mate's Ultimate series each have different form factors. The 8502 is the one that has an exposed QWERTY keyboard, which is ideal for those who are used to the BlackBerry layout but want a Windows Mobile device. DesignThough it...
It won't win any awards in the looks department €" it's rather bulky and large for a phone - but looks aren't everything in the mobile phone industry, unless you're Apple.
There are quite a few features to learn, and we found ourselves wishing the instructions were more detailed. A 2MP camera is hardly amazing, but good for happy snappers

i-mate ultimate 8502 review: The first HSPA smartphone released in Australia may also be the best Windows Mobile available to date.
Excellent connectivity including HSPA, GPS and Wi-Fi, Slim and solid build, TV-out Telstra services including Foxtel
Tiny QWERTY keyboard, Lower resolution display compared to previous i-mates
With its smaller size, better connectivity and improved battery life, the Ultimate 8502 is the excellent smartphone the previous i-mates were so close to being.
Design After the bulky, pocket-bulging i-mate Ultimate 6150 and 8150, this latest, slimmer i-mate is a real treat. Battery life aside, using the 8502 is an almost identical experience to the previous i-mate Ultimates. The best part is that...
