Palm Pre

By Ray Aguilera

We have a confession to make: There are a few Palm fans among us. Backin the day, you would have had to pry the grayscale Palm IIIx out ofour cold, dead, extremely well-organized hands. But Palm lost itsway--and we went back to our paper calendar for ...

Slide-out keyboard. Apps can run in the background. Sleek design

No direct Mac syncing. iTunes sync is a cat-and-mouse game with Apple. Unintuitive UI. Keyboard layout can be confusing. Keys are teeny-tiny. Pre's App Catalog is sparse

Background apps are awesome, and (apparently) some users are still married to a physical keyboard. But for most Mac users, the Palm Pre doesn't stack up, leaving the smartphone score at Apple: 3, iPhone killers: 0.

Palm Pre Could Get Slight Sales Boost with O2 agreement

By Sindre Lia

We take a look at how many units Palm will potentially be shipping through its exclusive agreement with O2.

Like the iPhone two years ago, the Palm Pre will be an O2 exclusive at introduction in the UK, meaning that it'll be a signature phone rather than the "mass market" approach Palm originally hoped for (and that Apple has got its eyes up for recently). ...

Review: Palm Pre

The Palm Pre is the latest in a line of supposed "iPhone killers," but underneath all the hype there's a surprisingly competent phone, if accompanied by uninspiring hardware.

Multitasking card interface lets you run many programs at once ; unified e-mail Inbox ; message flagging ; iTunes media syncing ; excellent notifications system ; multitouch gestures ; Synergy contact system good when it works

Often unintuitive interface ; cheap-feeling hardware construction ; poor hardware user interface design ; physical keyboard is difficult to use ; Synergy contact system doesn't always work as advertised ; touch screen is not always responsive

With sagging profits and an uphill slog in front of it, Palm has had to bet the farm on the Pre's success as well as that of its underlying ground-up technological revamp, the webOS. So can Palm do it? Does the Pre live up to its hype? Let's take a ...

Palm Pre (Sprint)

By Sascha Segan

Award: Editor's Choice!

Palm is backand with the coolest handheld device we've seen in a long time. The Palm Pre has the same exhilarating sense of possibility as the iPhoneand it's even worth switching to Sprint for. The Pre is the start of something genuinely new: Palm's ...

Excellent design. Very cool interface. Synergy feature consolidates e-mail, contacts, and calendars. Syncs with iTunes just like an iPod

Very few third-party apps at launch. So-so reception. Short standby battery life. Limited IM apps

The Palm Pre is the sexiest handset since the iPhoneand it also marks the dawn of a major new smartphone platform. Although it lacks third-party apps and has some battery life issues, it's much more fun than any other phone Sprint offers.

But the keys aren't too, too small: The Pre's keyboard is actually wider than the one on the Palm Treo Pro and much bigger than the Palm Centro's. The Palm Pre has the same exhilarating sense of possibility as the iPhone—and it's even worth...
