Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive

By Joseph Kaminski

The $180 320GB Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (HDDR320E03X) is the second drive from Toshiba we've reviewed bearing the Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive name. The design has been updated in this new version, but unfortunately ...

Large capacity for a travel drive ; very compact and light ; USB 2.0 powered ; ships with backup software ; cool and quiet

No FireWire ; very slow write speeds

The Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive is an attractive, lightweight drive with a decent price point for a drive of this capacity. Its size makes it great for travel, but the write speeds aren't up to par with other drives we've seen. We can't ...

Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (120GB)

Durable casing and shock-resistant design ; bundled with backup software ; bus-powered ; fast read speeds

Write speeds are on the slow side

The Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive is an attractive, durable drive for toting around, but the write speeds aren't up to snuff.

Perhaps Toshiba's marketing department has run out of ideas, but their new portable hard drive bears a very boring name: Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive. Portable hard drive read/write tests (Shorter bars indicate faster performance)...

Review: Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive 400GB

By Chris Holt

Toshiba's USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive is a serviceable drive with a few tradeoffs. Performance-minded users will see the Toshiba's USB-only connectivity as a limitation.

Compact ; bus powered

USB only ; power booster cable works only with a pair of USB ports

The G-Drive Mini has a much higher cost per gigabyte than the Toshiba drive. The $549 G-Drive has a 500GB capacity, giving it a price per gigabyte of $1.10. In comparison, the Toshiba drive costs $.45 cents per gigabyte

Toshiba 320GB Portable Drive

By David Murphy

Toshiba's 320GB portable drive is so plain it doesn't even have a real name. It's just the Toshiba 320GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive, which doesn't quite roll off the tongue as well as Western Digital's My Passport Elite, the Toshiba 320's ...

Fast write speeds ; easy-to-use backup software

Slow read speeds ; lacks an encryption program

The USB-only Toshiba 320 posted the slowest real-world read speeds of any drive we've tested. However, these lapses represent only a four percent difference in real-world performance when compared to the fastest non-proprietary drive we've tested, ...
