Product Reviews: Philips SPA9300

By Jason Saundalkar

Philips' SPA9300 2.1-channel speaker system is the least expensive here but you'd never know that just by looking at them. Finished in black and silver, the SPA9300 had the team won over with their stylish looks and design.

If you aren't interested in cranking up the volume, this is a fantastic budget buy that offers clear, crisp sound for music, videos and games.

Philips amBX SGC5103BD Premium Kit

By Stuart Andrews

Philips brought us Ambilight for its TVs. Now it brings us amBX for gaming.

To this, the ProGamer kit (from £123) adds a subwoofer, while the Premium kit reviewed here adds a vibrating keyboard wrist pad and two variable-speed fans with a maximum spin rate of 5000RPM. This provides the basis for the simplest form of amBX...

Philips AMBX Premium kit

In the premium kit you get everything currently available, barring a set of rear satellite lamps

LED Lights work ; FX generator for music

Loud fans and annoying rumbler ; Stupidly expensive

So don't rush out to buy this first wave of amBX kits, but don't write off the levels of creativity it's possible to achieve with it. Games don't really need anything to reinforce the fourth wall and fake 'real' experiences, but amBX peripherals that ...

Philips amBX Premium kit

What, exactly, is immersion? And do we really want it? If you're playing Theme Park, for example, would the smell of cheap frankfurters and the feel of water splashed in your face create a more compelling experience, or does it misunderstand ...

Philips - SPA9300

In a world that is awash with 5.1 surround sound speakers it makes a pleasant change to be faced with a set of 2.1 speakers such as this. The two satellites that sit on your desk ...

The SPA9300 speakers are typical of Philips products in so many ways. They look stylish, cost slightly more than you'd like to pay, perform well enough and have an unusual design that makes you wonder why Philips always plays by a different set of ...

Philips - SPA9300 features - VerdictThe SPA9300 speakers are typical of Philips products in so many ways. We speculate that the subwoofer is 20-25W and each satellite has 12-15W distributed between its three drivers. Unusually, they are finished...

Review : Philips SPA3300 2.1 Speaker Set

By paul_smart

The Phillips speakers are rated at 50 watts and described as Hi-Fidelity sound. With the sub-woofer tucked away the speakers are small enough to fit into most layouts.

When using this 2.1 set with a PC or notebook then there was plenty of volume even when using a built in sound chip rather than a sound card. However while the volume for a MP3 player was adequate you would hardly power a party from it. Most MP3 ...

Yamaha NX-U10 SpeakersmoreThe speakers themselves are modern in design. When using this 2.1 set with a PC or notebook then there was plenty of volume even when using a built in sound chip rather than a sound card. With the sub-woofer tucked away...

Philips MMS430

By Ross Catanzariti

Outstanding bass levels, funky design, crisp and clear tones, ease of setup

No treble adjustment, mid-tones could be improved

A highly recommended set of desktop speakers with outstanding bass levels, the MMS430 is simply great value for money.

The Philips MMS430 2.1 desktop PC speakers pack a serious amount of punch and include a fantastic subwoofer capable of thumping bass levels. The first thing we noticed when unpacking the MMS430, was the rather large and impressive wooden...

Philips MMS430

Seemingly modelled on Darth Vader's TIE fighter, it's immediately obvious that Philips has not designed these two satellites and a subwoofer specifically for MP3 players, but instead has gone for the games systems market; we detect a strong X Box ...

Great sound, Good value, Strong bass

Others are more stylish

The MMS430 will look best as part of an MP3 player's bedroom base, as a PC's desktop speakers, or carted around friends' homes with a games system. Similarly versatile speakers are around that look better, but not at this low price
