Nero 8 review

By Elsa Wenzel

Nero 8 shows off a new interface for getting started that makes the many tools easier to find from the get-go. Some welcome new features include HD support, although this rich suite can still confuse.

Nero 8 costs $79 to download, $99 for the box, and $49 to upgrade from Nero 7 Ultra Edition. Nero 8 includes a revamped entry page in addition to new support for burning and creating HD and Blu-ray CDs and DVDs. Setup We had to let an early...

By Nate Marion

Is Nero's latest upgrade worth the cash? We are leaning towards yes. With 8, Nero have shown renewed focus on what it is consumers are most interested in, and as a result, have made the application much easier to use. Read on as we explore all that's new

Comprehensive multimedia editing package, Rip, burn and view virtually any current format on any current media, Edit virtually any type of content in a multitude of ways, Back up, restore, stream and share your data

ImageTool doesn't seem to like SATA optical drives, Copy protected media cannot be ripped, Sharing media with Nero Home is far from intuitive

Nero 8 Ultra Edition Review

By Matthew Murray

Improved program launcher; DiscCopy gadget for Vista simplifies disc duplication

Few major changes since Nero 7 Ultra Edition; certain HD tools require added-cost plug-in; time-consuming to download and install

A shiny new interface and a few helpful features highlight this update to Nero's media-creation suite, but you don't need Nero 8 Ultra Edition if you're a veteran user of this type of software.

The term Nero uses to describe its current approach to content these days is "liquid media." It's not inapt—nearly every media-creation package these days, including the recently released Nero 8 Ultra Edition, is a reservoir overflowing with...

Nero 8 Ultra Edition

By David English

Easy access to basic tasks from SmartStart. New data recovery tool. New 3D animated menus for disc projects. Expanded HD authoring and playback support.

Sometimes hard to find the right component. Inadequate help.

It doesn't have the sweeping integration of its modules some fans were hoping for, but the new component programs and interface tweaks add value to this venerable jack-of-all-trades media application.

Nero 8 features a redesigned SmartStart portal that pulls key functions into the initial interface. Nero 8's chief competitor, Roxio's Easy Media Creator 10 Suite (EMC 10), integrates more of its common functions into the initial interface, though...

Nero 8

In addition to the disc-ripping and -burning capabilities with which Nero first made its mark, the digital-media suite also offers a bevy of options for managing movies, music, and photos. Nero helps you create and edit videos and music files, share that

Nero Review

Nero, from Ahead software is a very good CD copying application. With Nero's easy to use Smart Start option, you can select the feature that is best suited to your needs. Nero not only offers a CD copying option, but also allows you to copy non-protected

Overall, Nero is a great product but its poor customer support takes everything down several notches. Why settle for that when you can get the best of both worlds in other products.

Nero 8 software allows you to perform many other applications from: backing up your PC files, making copies of PC games, creating MP3, WMA, and WAV discs and other related applications are all simple operations with Nero. With Nero's easy to use...

Nero 8

By James Morris

Award: Recommended!

Refocusing on disc-related features makes Nero the top choice for optical disc authoring.

So it's not perfect. And comparing Nero 8 with Roxio's EMC 10, the latter still has the edge on quantity of features for the money. But Nero's abilities are directly aimed at its core market: burning files to disc in an orderly and flexible way.

Many of Nero 8's new features revolve around Nero Vision 5, the video disc-authoring tool. At least Nero supports a number of services, including YouTube and MySpace, plus My Nero. Nero ShowTime links directly to My Nero community as well. And...

REVIEW: Nero 8 - PC

By Stephen Patrick

New interface. Plenty of features

Heavy install

The core functions are still the same but Nero has simply made them easier to use

Then there are the tools for editing down content for YouTube and MySpace, or even Nero's own My Nero. However, Nero has made a big thing about the new visual look of Version 8 and on first inspection it's easy to see why: it helps tie the number...

Nero 8 Vs Roxio Easy Media Creator 10

It's an age old question - Nero or Roxio? We compare the latest versions of these venerable media creation suites.

Nero 8 and Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 both contain all the applications required to create, convert, rip and burn every type of media imaginable. However Roxio has missed a trick by neglecting to provide support for emerging High-Def formats, like Blu-Ra...

If you need a one-stop shop for Media Authoring, it's widely accepted there are only two suites worth considering - Ahead's Nero, and Roxio's Easy Media Creator. Both Nero's Smart Start, and Roxio's Easy Media Creator Suite have a calming theme,...

New improved SmartStart, faster in loading and running, HD support

No longer separate packages

Nero has made some useful improvements from the versions 7. If it's HD media creating you're going for next, then this is the package to look at. Although we're unsure if it's a significant enough change to move on from the last version, however the quick...
