QuarkXpress 8

By John Cruise

UQuarkXPress' interface has undergone a massive makeover for version 8. While the new look can be distracting at first, once you get used to it, there's plenty to like about the increased productivity the new UI affords.

Improved UI. Expansive feature set for print publishing. Useful Flash authoring features. Option to combine and synchronize layouts in a single project file

Typographic features fall a bit short. Sheer volume of features makes the program somewhat cumbersome

Despite its massive feature set, QuarkXPress 8 by itself isn't a match for the Adobe Creative Suite, but compared head-to-head with InDesign, it's certainly a more versatile app. This may not be enough to entice former users who jumped ship to ...

Major interface overhaul brings more simplicity and ease of use, but few new features

QuarkXPress 8 marks a major change to the user interface of the venerable page-layout and design program for the Mac. At the same time, version 8 offers very little in the way of new features, thus making the interface change its hallmark.

Interface updates make the program easier and more streamlined to use ; easier document sharing ; new hanging-characters feature

Interface changes are only partial ; few brand-new features ; new features are of limited utility for most users

Review: QuarkXPress 8

By Gene Gable

QuarkXPress users will welcome many of the changes in XPress 8, and may even delight in a few of them.

A much easier way to change the corner radius is from the Measurements palette, where you can also adjust all the other attributes mentioned. Quark has done a commendable job of moving almost everything from those modal dialog boxes onto the ...

QuarkXpress 8.1

By Michael Burns

QuarkXPress 8 was a fairly thorough restructuring of the venerable DTP application. This update, free to registered users of version 8, is mainly concerned with addressing bugs and sorting out the workflow. However there are some new capabilities, ...

DF enhancements including layer export options and native transparency support, Scaling and Spelling enhancements, improved content tools, XML import, free upgrade

Some bugs still evident (acknowledged by Quark), real-time previews and more interactive tools would be welcome, full price version relatively expensive

QuarkXPress 8.1 is an essential upgrade for users of version 8. Small, but significant, touches like XML Import may also prompt new users to invest in the old publishing warhorse.

QuarkXPress 8 review

Will QuarkXPress 8 reclaim ground from Adobe InDesign CS3?

Interactive Designer, new interface, flexible content handling, direct manipulation of boxes and pictures, design grids, new shortcuts for tools, improved Bezier performance, universal file format

Experienced users may have usability issues with new interface, pricier than InDesign, no support for PSD layer effects, page navigation controls require fine tuning

By the streamlined interface, WYSIWYG font menu, and context-sensitive tools and tasks, you can see that productivity has been key in this near-rebuild of QuarkXPress. On opening a new project, the toolset is noticeably smaller, with most of the ...

QuarkXPress 8

By Keith Martin

The first thing you notice about this application is its redesigned interface. As we said in our beta preview, this is a radical departure from all previous versions and gives it a truly modern look. But what's also remarkable about this is how ...

If you're an existing QuarkXPress user, this is what you probably thought would never happen - an upgrade easily good enough to keep you this side of the fence. If you're an InDesign user will all this be enough to tempt you to QuarkXPress? That's a ...

QuarkXPress 8.0 review

By Rosemary Haworth

In QuarkXPress 8.0, Quark believes it has the right product to take the desktop-publishing fight back to rival Adobe's InDesign package.

We were impressed with QuarkXPress 8.0. if you've been waiting for a compelling reason to make the move from Quark 4.0 or 5.0, then this may well be it (as a £279 upgrade, it's well worthwhile). However, if you're looking for your first professional ...

QuarkXPress 8

US Note: This is an automatic translation. The text can differ from the original review.

Quark XPress is a design and lay-outprogramma with a long history. With version 8, the program significantly scrubbed. The emphasis is much more convenience and better cooperation with different formats .

For a page on this issue, we simply drag and drop content such as Word files or EPS images from our folders to the document and QuarkXPress automatically creates the correct subjects. Then we can scale, rotate and move without new tools to use. Improved a...

Quark XPress relates to competitor Adobe InDesign as Lotus 1-2-3 was compared with Excel. Some bruise in the armor of Quark - in 1987 with version 1 in the market - are shown. Easier to operate the main ...
