Olympus 790 SW

If you are heading out for the slopes or off scuba diving then the rugged 790 SW could well be the thing to slip in your backpack

Very tough design. Good image quality. Lots of exciting features

Expensive compared to non-rugged competition. Controls can be unresponsive. Some lens distortion

Olympus Mju 790SW

The camera didn't perform too well after a spell in the freezer

Ease of use, Picture quality

Fiddly buttons, Could do with a more rugged finish

For the everyday demands of the great outdoors, this is a great option. A slightly more rugged and more scratch-resistant finish would be nice, but in most other respects the µ790SW fits the bill

The Olympus µ790SW is designed for hikers and ramblers. the sort of people who wear beanie hats and take a flask of tea and packet of fish-paste sandwiches with them on their walks. Well, we didn't exactly dress up for the test but we did decide...

Olympus mju790SW

When someone tells a reviewer that a camera is drop, shock and water-resistant, what do they seriously expect to happen? Quite... the claim's going to be tested. What red-blooded reviewer is going to take some camera maker's word for it?

Ease of use, Picture quality

Fiddly buttons, Could do with a more rugged finish

Small, easy to use and with good picture quality this is ideal for the great outdoors

The Olympus -790SW is designed for hikers and ramblers. the sort of people who wear beanie hats and take a flask of tea and packet of fish-paste sandwiches with them on their walks. Image quality is well up to the usual high Olympus standards,...

Olympus Tough 790 SW

By Andrew Kliem

Incredibly sturdy design, suitable for a huge variety of users, sharp pictures

Colour and white balance issues, a little sluggish at times

Olympus' latest tough model, the 790 SW, is a brilliant camera suited to a wide variety of users. Whether you want a family device that you can give to the kids or a rugged photography machine for skiing and hiking, it will do the job, and while its ...

Then we bet you wish your camera of choice was the Olympus Tough 790 SW. It comes in a waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, crushproof and snow proof chassis, the 790 SW can take just about as much pain as you can dish out, and still captures some...

Olympus Mju 790SW digital camera

By Doug Harman

Build, image quality, easy to use, handling Face Detection AF

Noise at higher ISO settings, full manual on CD, purple fringing at wide end of zoom, 30fps movie's limited to 10-second clips, frame rate, lacks manual/creative control

A 3m-depth waterproofing and robust build means it is droppable from 1.5-metres ? without it breaking into a sweat ? or any of its components, and it is also capable of good quality images

Unlike the recently tested and ruggedised Mju 770 SW the new Mju 790 SW has a slightly lower level of toughness and a lower price at £200, a hundred quid less than the launch price of the 770. However, for those outdoors types among you the Mju...

Olympus 790 SW

The Stylus 790 SW can be used at the beach, boating on the lake or ocean, hiking, skiing, or just traveling -- without worrying about bumps, knocks, rain, mud, sand or dust!

It is not afraid of falls, bumps, salt water sprays or snow. [Olympus advertises the 790 SW for the "casual active users" and the 795 SW for the "real active users."] It is easy to get good pictures with the Stylus 790 SW using any one of its...

Olympus Mju 790 SW: Tough as nails

By Edvarcl Heng

A pretty camera with a tough guy heart? That's the new 790 SW's middle name.

However, Olympus' Mju 790 SW, like the Mju 770 SW before it, is tough enough to shoot in 3m of water and withstand drops of up to 1.5m, so if you're klutzy, you won't have to worry quite as much. DesignIf it didn't say so on the front of the...
