Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5

By James Morris

Optical zoom at its optimum

Although it's not the most compact of compacts – it'll only fit into your jeans back pocket if you're not planning to bend down – not everyone wants a tiny camera. The upside of the TZ5's size is a 3in screen on the back, plus room to spare for easy ...

The Panasonic Lumix TZ5 has been a best seller for many months - and after reviewing this camera - it's easy to see why. The camera offers an excellent wide angle 10x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, all in a relatively compact body that ...

Panasonic have this to say about the camera: "Panasonic is pleased to introduce Lumix digital camera, 9.1-megapixel DMC-TZ5, featuring a 28mm wide-angle 10x optical zoom Leica DC lens (equivalent to 28-280mm on a 35mm film camera). The Panasonic...

Award: Recommended!

If you're looking for the perfect travel camera, you may have just found it.

Back in April I reviewed the Lumix DMC-TZ4, Panasonic?'s then-new 8.1-megapixel, 10x zoom travel camera, and I stated at the time that I also hoped to get its more powerful sibling the TZ5 in for review soon after.

Panasonic TZ5 review

By Dennis Hissink

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 review : One year after the introduction of the Panasonic TZ3, and right before the PMA 2008 kicked off, Panasonic revealed the successor to the TZ3: the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. Being the fourth generation Traveler Zoom (TZ), ...

Panasonic TZ5 features The main differences between the Panasonic TZ5 and its predecessor (Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3) are few. Compact cameras such as the Panasonic TZ5 are very much appreciated, and that is for a reason. Besides the 10x zoom, the...

Panasonic DMC-TZ5

With the TZ5, Panasonic offers a product which nicely embodies serious construction, appreciable compactness, a versatile and useful (stabilized) zoom, nice image quality and a high definition video mode. An excellent finished product for which there ...

- Good definition of the 3 inch screen, - 10x zoom, - Quality of video (HD) and zooming is possible during recording, - Wide angle, - Optical stabilization

- Relatively slow, - Autofocus sometimes slow at full zoom and in poor lighting, - Face detection slower than certain rivals, - No manual modes, - LCD can be difficult to use in full sun

Panasonic DMC TZ5

The Panasonic DMC TZ5 is an impressive camera. It is small for a camera with a 10x zoom lens. This makes it easy to carry around. It has 9 megapixels and is easy to use as well. It has a very high quality LCD screen.

Ease of use - design and build quality - overall picture quality - wide screen, (high-definition) movies - size and length of lens - wide angle lens - LCD screen quality

There is nothing that stands out

Panasonic market the DMC TZ5 as a travel camera. With its long zoom lens and relatively compact body I think they have that right. Picture quality is impressive and the camera is easy to use. It is well worth a close look.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 Review

Award: Editor's Choice!

Image quality is very good at ISO 100, with low noise and good image detail. Image quality is good at ISO 200 but, as is common with all consumer digicams, tend to suffer from noise and loss of detail at higher ISOs.
