Versatile mix of ease-of-use features and manual controls; tilting 3-inch LCD; good color reproduction; zoom operates in movie mode.
Slowish startup and shutdown; occasional fringing, noise issues; no raw support or hot shoe.
Though its lens isn't as wide and suffers from many of the same lens artifacts as its competitors, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50 is a good megazoom camera with a lot of features for experiment-minded snapshooters.
A fantastic camera that offers superb zoom abilities and high quality photographs. Worth its asking price.
The Cybershot DSC-H50 is the successor to Sony?s older DSC-H9 ?super zoom? camera and being a new model, this US $462 camera offers a number of improvements over its counterpart. The DSC-H50 is quite adept at producing photos even at high ISO...
Besides the "super thin keep in your pocket/purse all the time model of compact digital cameras" there seems to be a new kid on the block nowadays, the superzoom. Such is Sony's DSC-H50 (available in chrome or black finish).
With a retail price of $399 the Sony Cybershot DSC-H50 makes for a must have camera for those who often need a longer range zoom but don't want to carry around the bulk of the standard DSLR type of camera
Sony's new Cyber-shot DSC-H50 has some outstanding features. But it also has a few kinks that may or may not hang you up, depending on how picky you are about certain functions.
Powerful 15x optical zoom Tilting 3-inch LCD screen
Slow startup speed Short battery life
But the DSC-H50 has some shortcomings. The LCD produces a somewhat jumpy image when panning, which I found irksome. Battery life is less than ideal: Our lab tests yielded 291 shots on a charge; in the field, it was noticeably short. While most of the came...
Any list of the DSC-H50's strengths begins with its Carl Zeiss 15X zoom lens. In 35mm terms, that's a whopping 465mm when the DSC-H50 is zoomed in as tight as it can be, and 15X is an impressive telephoto capability, given the size and weight of...
Award: Highly Recommended!
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50 is a 9 megapixel digital camera equipped with a 15x Carl Zeiss lens, putting it squarely in the super-zoom category. Although not quite as wide-ranging as some of its 18x zoom competitors, the 31-465mm focal range of the DSC-H5...

With a 15x zoom and a tilting 3-inch LCD screen, it's remarkable that Sony kept the Cyber-shot H50 as small as they did. They managed to shoehorn a lot more than that into the Sony H50, including a competent night shot mode, a comprehensive slideshow mode...
