New 15 Mp Canon EOS 50D digital SLR camera

Canon expands its EOS digital SLR series with the EOS 50D. The new SLR has been built upon the EOS 40D - which will remain in Canon's line - and features a 15.1-megapixel CMOS APS-C size image sensor that uses newly designed gapless micro lenses over ...

Canon EOS 50D

By Brad Soo

So the new features that most people will be looking at would be the higher resolution sensor with higher maximum ISO and even better performance of the camera (not that the old camera wasn't fast enough). Then there are the usual mid-range digital ...

Good image quality ; Sharp, very viewable 3 inch LCD ; Typical digital SLR expandability via various accessories ; Solid build quality and good ergonomics; partially sealed body ; Live view comes in handy at times; shows a live histogram and manual ...

Needs to use better/more expensive lenses for better image quality (less softness and fringing) ; One “custom” mode dial spot sacrificed for Creative Auto mode ; Slow autofocus in live view mode ; Below average battery life; lower compared to the old ...

The Canon EOS 50D is a mid-range digital SLR which has 15 megapixels of resolution and comes in your choice of three kits. The EOS 50D is one of the larger cameras in its class, but makes up for that with very good build quality and ergonomics. There ...

Canon EOS 50D Digital Camera - Hands-On Preview - The Imaging Resource!

By Shawn Barnett

Canon has broken with its tradition of upgrading the line every 18 months, introducing the EOS 50D just 12 months from the introduction of the 40D. The move will help the 50D catch up with the Nikon D300, which has made quite a splash in the market. ...

Excellent 15.1 megapixel sensor with very low noise and superb detail ; ISO 100 to 1,600 usable at 13x19 inches ; Dust removal technology reduces sensor cleaning chores ; High-resolution 3.0-inch LCD makes checking focus and composing in Live View an ...

AF assist only works when flash is up, though flash can be forced off ; Auto-rotation doesn't play well with all computer programs ; Soft images with the 28-135mm kit lens ; demands very good optics ; Kit lens doesn't really reach wide angle ; Indoor ...

Canon's new DIGIC 4 processor is a part of the equation, moving the extra data at a faster pace than its predecessor, and keeping the camera to a high 6.3 frames per second while maintaining that 14-bit data for RAW images (this is a slight speed drop ...

Canon EOS 50D Hands-on Previewby Shawn BarnettThe jump from the Canon 20D to 30D was similar to this, the transition from 40D to 50D, with most of the changes made internally. With the same rugged, conservative body as the 40D, the Canon EOS 50D's...

Canon EOS 50D Digital Camera - Full Review

Many features stand out to make the Canon EOS 50D a great digital SLR camera. What will really catch and hold users is the impressive image quality they'll get from the Canon 50D across the standard ISO range of 100 to 3,200. The Canon 50D's new ...

Canon EOS 50D Review

By Bob Atkins

The Canon EOS 50D is Canon's latest "prosumer" DSLR. It's quite clearly based strongly on the EOS 40D, being virtually identical in shape, size, weight and control layout, but the EOS 50D adds a number of features.

is selling for around $1200 (discounted from $1400 "list"), due in part to a $100 "instant rebate" from Canon

Canon EOS 50D

Serious amateur and semi-professional photographers are the target market for the Canon EOS 50D - the same market that its predecessors, the 40D, 30D, 20D, ... were targeted to. Like its predecessors, the 50D can be used in fully automatic point and ...

Historically, only Canon's 1-series bodies were weather sealed. With the 40Dd came partial weather sealing and the 50D has received similar partial weather sealing. I'm not ready to get my 50D wet, but every avoided repair is a big deal in both time ...

Canon EOS 50D

By Rod Lawton

The EOS 50D offers class-leading resolution, an amazing 6.3fps continuous shooting mode, a tough, magnesium alloy body and compatibility with all Canon EF-S and EF lenses. Though its 15-megapixel sensor has the highest resolution of any of its rivals, ...

Rugged build ; excellent design ; 6.3fps shooting ; high-res LCD

Unexceptional definition ; disappointing 17-85mm kit lens

The EOS 50D is an excellent semi-pro camera with slick controls, rugged build and a terrific continuous shooting rate of 6.3fps. But while the camera's great, the pictures are pretty average, despite that 15-megapixel sensor. The fine detail in JPEGs ...

The 50D uses the same APS-C sized sensor as the cheaper 1000D and 450D, but as well as having a higher resolution it's housed in a much bigger, chunkier body. Like other EOS cameras, the 50D is a dream to use, and that big control dial on the back...

Canon EOS 50D digital camera

By Doug Harman

Does this DSLR impress?

Excellent image quality, good ergonomics and build, menu system, comprehensive feature set and customisability, info panel, responsive

Joystick and Quick Dial take getting used to ; shadow detail lost too quickly, noise processing eats detail over ISO 1000 (and at lowest setting)

While the new model is essentially presented in the same wrapper as the 40D, it has significant improvements that make it very tempting indeed

The large quick control wheel is used in conjunction with a small joystick device or "multi controller" as Canon calls it; this is rather counter intuitive to use at first (the same problem as with other EOS models fitted with the same control......
