A drive that can take a few knocks

Freecom's Tough Drive Pro 250 GB is touted as a shock resistant portable drive. First impressions are positive; the soft silicon wrapped casing feels quite nice to hold, and should provide some shock resistance. The drive inside is nestled within an...

Freecom ToughDrive Pro

This ToughDrive Pro U&F is an upgrade of Freecom's existing 2.5-inch 160GB ToughDrive. The capacity's the same but for an extra £50 you get a FireWire 400 connection to bolster the single USB 2.0 port

Abuse-resistant, Double connectivity, Optional power supply included

No software or encryption, Expensive

Two connection options and a tough caddy just about justify the price

Freecom ToughDrive Pro

It's always a good idea to have a backup of your laptop's hard drive, should the worst happen. However, there are times when you'll need to take that backup with you, so having a shock-proof external drive is a good option

1080p pictures, Superb colour reproduction, Sturdy

Black levels are merely okay, The sheer size won't suit everyone, Can get quite warm

Good software makes this a valuable backup tool

Weighing in at just 175g, the FHD-2 Pro is also impressively slimline, measuring 127 x 79 x 15mm. Attractively finished in aluminium casework, the only protuberance is an illuminated button towards the rear

Strong performance, Great looks

None to be found

There is little to fault to be found on this cracker of technology

If design is key to you this smart looking hard drive could be for you.

Freecom 01423 704 700

Easy to use but a poor performer when compared to other external portable hard drives.

Housed in a scratch-resistant aluminium case, Freecom's FHD-2 Pro is the smallest device in our round-up. As with the other pocket drives, the Freecom can be powered via USB. The Freecom is supplied with Autorun, a utility that lets you set an...
