Attractive, polished design ; big 16:9 screen is perfect for HD video content ; includes Blu-ray drive and media remote
Overly glossy and fingerprint-prone ; merely average battery life
HP already makes some of the best multimedia laptops, and trading up to a true 16:9 18-inch display makes for an impressive semiportable home theater in the form of the HP HDX18.
The new 18-inch HDX18 (along with the 16-inch HDX16) clearly shares a basic DNA with HP's recent 17-inch Pavilion DV7, with a similar rounded keyboard, touch-sensitive media controls, and off-center touch pad. HP HDX18Average for category [desktop...
HP's HDX 18 Entertainment PC is a notebook, but not in the portability sense of the word. With an 18.4-inch diagonal screen and a carry weight of 10 pounds, 9 ounces, you might occasionally move this monster from room to room, but you won't take it ...
Strong CPU performance, appealing features, attractive looks
Poor gaming performance, too big and heavy for portability, pricey
The HDX 18 also offers a full-size keyboard and numeric pad that make typing easy and comfortable. The accommodations extend to a generous helping of ports, including-but not limited to-HDMI, dual headphone jacks, three USB ports, and a very cool ...
HP's HDX line is fairly straightforward--it courts multimedia fiends. From its double-wide demeanor (with ample room for full QWERTY keys and a keypad) to all the plugs and ports offered here, the HDX18--a fairly fashionable desktop replacement--will ...
Big, beautiful 18.4-inch display Good speakers
Screen is a little too glossy Slightly redundant multimedia software
What kind of price can you put on this kind of entertainment PC? Quite a bit, actually. Our machine, as configured, will run you upwards of $2300. If that's a little too rich for your blood, scale back features, and you can get a baseline model for ...
The HDX18 isn't quite a desktop-destroyer like Toshiba's Qosmio X305 (Toshiba's Qosmio line has a well-deserved rep for awesome performance in games and stellar audio--hang in there, we'll have a review of the X305 up soon enough), but the...
As a desktop replacement, the HDX18 not only performs well, it makes your desk itself look snazzier, with great multimedia features.

HP's HDX line is fairly straightforward--it courts multimedia fiends. You can tell that HP really thought about a nice multimedia interface with its MediaSmart software's sweet GUI interface and how the notebook's shortcut keys tie together. In...
Award: Editor's Choice!
A 20-inch laptop might sound like the ultimate media hub, and for a while, the HP Pavilion HDX-9000 (Dragon) received numerous accolades for being most extraordinary, biggest in the world, and straight out of "Ripley's Believe or Not." Unfortunately, ...
Remarkable 18.4-inch screen. Superb 1080p resolution. Desirable design and chrome interior. Integrated ATSC TV tuner. Variety of connectivity ports. Centrino 2 platform. Outstanding performance numbers.
Pricey.
The 18.4-inch screen will stop you in your tracks, and you'll soon realize that everythingnot just the screenscreams high-end multimedia laptop.
The HP HDX18t ($2,000 direct) tips the scales at just 8.7 pounds (rather than the HDX-9000's absurd 15 pounds), and follows an ongoing parade of laptops utilizing the 16:9 screen format. HP spared little expense with the HDX18t's innards. The HP...
This head-turning 18-incher features a full HD display, Blu-ray playback, blazing performance, and enough oomph for gaming.
Brilliant full HD display, Above-average performance, Powerful discrete graphics, Strong wireless scores, Good battery life
Poor viewing angles, Touchpad has too much friction, Gummy touch buttons
The Altec Lansing speakers, which lie above the touch panel, produced loud, theater-quality sound. It doesn't have Dolby True 5.1 Surround Sound like the 8920G; instead, it comes with Dolby Home Theater software, which simulates the surround sound ...

A loaded feature set and modest cost make this workstation a contender for work and play.
The HP's massive screen almost requires you to watch some HD content from a Blu-ray disc or your telly. Excellent graphical performance will please all but the most stuck-up gamers. Reasonable price, considering its teeming features.
The swooshy "liquid metal" paint job probably isn't for everyone. Volume, bass and treble controls are flaky.
