Excellent quality and construction ; thoughtful keyboard layout ; inventive touch-screen features
Expensive ; touch-screen features have limited real-world usefulness for most
A revamped version of Lenovo's slim ThinkPad T400s adds an innovative touch-screen package to the first Windows 7 laptop we've reviewed.

Lightweight ; strong construction ; great keyboard and touch pad
Expensive ; no discrete graphics ; SD card slot doesn't come standard
The T400s is the lightest 14-inch ThinkPad yet from Lenovo--just be ready to pay for the convenience.

Lenovo loves to push and prod at the boundaries of notebook technology. Sometimes these results are fascinating (as with the dual-screen ThinkPad W700ds). And sometimes they fall flat, as is the case with the ThinkPad T400s with multitouch hardware.
Lovely textured trackpad (ironically redundant given the multitouch screen). Still offers solid ThinkPad design and sturdiness. Turns Paint into Fingerpaint - fun
Huge price markup for touch features. Massive performance, weight and battery hit. Stretching to use multitouch screen is uncomfortable for more than a few seconds, making extended touch usage nearly impossible and rarely accurate

Multitouch panel works well. Exquisitely thin. Modular optical drive included. Fast, energy-efficient processor. Nice resolution. Tough as nails. Phenomenal typing experience. Excellent green credentials
No FireWire or extra card slot. No extended batteries available ; Watch our Lenovo ThinkPad T400s (Multitouch) video review
The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s (Multitouch), a big-screen version of the ThinkPad X300 commands the same kind of awe, and now has multitouch capability.
The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s (Multitouch) ($2,395 direct) incites lust among business users. The only real consequence is its weight: At 4.4 pounds, the T400s (Multitouch) is a half-a-pound heavier than the ThinkPad T400s (3.9 lbs), a weight increase...
Blazing fast performance, Best-in-class keyboard, Intuitive Simple Tap interface
Heavier than original T400s, High premium for touchscreen
The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s looks like your boring tray-table business notebook. But what the flight attendant doesn't know is that the Windows 7 14.1-inch capacitive touchscreen laptop is the first capable of four finger multitouch and it's fingertastic!
Now, that doesn't mean you can do everything in Windows 7 with your finger, which is why Lenovo put on its own widget style SimpleTap user interface. SimpleTap lets you control the volume or adjust the screen brightness with fat finger like controls. ...
Does it make business sense?
A well rounded business notebook that is only held back by its higher than average end user price
Just 0.83-inches thick and under 4 pounds in weight, the "s" in the T400s's model name stands for "skinny." But that doesn't mean the T400s is a lightweight when it comes to power, build and features.
Sporting a 14.1-inch LED screen, a solid state storage option, and a second generation Top Cover Roll Cage, the T400s is a serious machine, signified by the all-black exterior that's synonymous with the ThinkPad line. The notebook's roll cage is built ...
The wheels were set in motion for the advent of the ThinkPad T400s ($1,995 direct) the minute Lenovo launched the ThinkPad X300 (and subsequently, the X301). A larger version of that highly sought-after 13-inch business ultraportable was the next ...
Lightest in its class. Exquisitely thin. Modular optical drive included. Fast, but energy efficient processor. Very nice resolution. Tough as nails. Phenomenal typing experience. Excellent green credentials
FireWire and extra card slot were concessions that had to be made. No extended batteries
The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s is a big-screen iteration of the ThinkPad X300 and commands the same kind of awe.
Stripping the black from a ThinkPad would have been like stripping its brand identity, as Lenovo found out when it tried out a platinum version of its now-defunct ThinkPad Z61m. The ThinkPad T400s takes the X300's exquisitely thin dimensions and...
Lenovo's ThinkPad T400s is slimmed down, but still feature loaded and powerful. Some changes had to be made to slim down, but will they alienate too many users? Read on to find out.
Thin, lightweight design, Loaded with features, Bright LCD with vibrant colors, Excellent keyboard
Average battery life, High cost (for the market), Low end models have slow HDD
Open the black rectangle and you will see a familiar sight with a few tweaks. The TrackPoint and toucpad are redesigned with usability in mind, featuring larger TrackPoint buttons and a larger, textured multitouch-capable touchpad. Some of the system ...
