The Tamron 90mm 2.8 Macro was first introduced February 12th, 2004 at PMA in Las Vegas. It is certainly no newcomer, so why do a review of this lens now? For two reasons, we think it still offers excellent value for what you get, and it is full frame ...
The Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Lens is a popular short-telephoto macro lens - Popular because of its modest size, good image quality, decent AF (autofocus) and reasonable price
Overall, Canon's USM AF is much nicer, but the Tamron performs better than the Sigma 105 in this regard.
Mount options include Canon, Nikon, Minolta (now Sony) and Pentax
Well built ; Great price ; Good quality optics
Focusing is a little slow and noisy and, while the front element doesn't rotate, the inner barrel extends so far at the closest focus setting it practically doubles the length of the lens. Also on the plus side, it's easy to switch between Manual and ...
Tamron's SP 90 is cheap but the standard of build quality and sturdy construction definitely doesn't give this away.
Award: Highly Recommended!
Tamron has always been a major player in the macro photography market and their star in this segment is the highly popular the Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP macro. It is a distant relative of the initial Tamron 90mm f/2.5 Adaptall model from the early ...
The Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP is an excellent lens without significant flaws and it is at least asgood if not even slightly better than its more expensive native Pentax counterpart. The resolution figures are impressively high, vignetting is marginal ...
This 90mm fixed focal length lens is a relatively fast f2.8 optic that can be used as a normal, focus-to-infinity lens, and also as a macro lens capable of 11 reproduction. It is well made with a simple push-pull clutch mechanism for changing from ...
This lens focuses quickly and quietly. The "bokeh" - the out of focus background highlights - is particularly attractive. Images are sharp, with good contrast and neutral colour. Overall the optical quality of the lens is excellent.
We found that the rear lens cap would not fit on our other Nikon mount lenses. It is not a calamity but it is annoying not to be able to simply swap rear lens protectors when changing lenses.
The Photozone survey of owners shows a high level of satisfaction with the Tamron. It is rated highly for build quality and optical and mechanical performance with no nasty surprises in distortion or chromatic aberration. In its own objective test ...
Tamron's SP 90 is the cheapest offering in our macro group but the standard of build quality and sturdy construction definitely doesn't give this away. Mount options include Canon, Nikon, Minolta (now Sony) and Pentax

Tamron's offering is a strong performer...
Nice focal length, good results, full-frame imaging circle
Not very much
A good choice for all-round work, with the advantage of a nice portrait focal length and good contrast.
The Tamron 90mm uses a dual-focus system, which has a secure click between manual and autofocus. Www.intro2020.co.uk This Tamron lens is " according to the US website " known affectionately as the "portrait macro-. Certainly 90mm is a lovely...
This lens will not disappoint you with its sharpness, which is a match for its competition especially wide open. The lens actually read out as f/3 wide open which is not quite 'what it says on the tin', loosing almost a third of a stop but does come ...
Conversely, it proved light and easy to use, especially in small hands. (My wife's, not mine!)In summary the main positive points of the Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro are: Focussing speed (for a macro) Performance wide open...
