Creative Zen X-Fi (16GB) review

By Jasmine France

The Creative Zen X-Fi is an incredible value given its low price and laundry list of features, which include photo, video, Audible, and subscription music support ; an FM radio and voice recorder ; an SD card expansion slot ; WiFi capability ; ...

The Creative Zen X-Fi plastic construction does not feel high-quality, and the SD card content does not get integrated into the general libraries. Videos often need to be transcoded through the included software, and the button pad can be confusing at ...

The Creative Zen X-Fi's plastic design leaves a little to be desired, but that doesn't detract from the fact that the player is an incredible value overall: for an extremely competitive price you get a boatload of features and great sound quality.

Photo gallery: Creative Zen X-Fi Editors' note: Our Creative Zen X-Fi test unit suffered from a cosmetic flaw where the bottom edge face plate warped up and away from the body of the player. Evidence of this is apparent in the Zen X-Fi, a compact...

Despite its crippled WiFi, the Zen X-Fi has a lot to offer your ears.

Very good sound quality; included ear buds are excellent; attractive interface

Buttons are small and are not backlit; lacks wireless sync and web browsing

Creative Zen X-Fi (16GB)

By Jeffrey L. Wilson

The first Wi-Fi-enabled Zen offers excellent sound, but drops the ball with a confusing control scheme.

Clean, crisp sound, SD Card slot, Comfortable bundled earbuds, Audiobook support

Cluttered navigation controls, Underwhelming audio enhancement, Non-JPEG photo files need to be transcoded, No predictive text when instant messaging

Staying connected to Wi-Fi takes a heavy toll on battery life (half an hour of wireless use drained a freshly charged player by 25 percent), but you can turn it off in the system settings. Creative rates the Zen X-Fi's battery life at 36 hours for ...

Creative Zen X-Fi MP3 Player

The amazing Zen X-Fi has great sound, features, headphones, and storage options--and for a nice price, too.

Nice features, sound, earbuds, and price ; Networking and streaming capabilities

Plastic body feels cheap, but durable ; Small screen for video and photos

Minor issues like the chat malfunctions can't take the shine off of the Creative X-Fi. It's an outstanding digital music player that rises to the top with ease. The masses may continue to think iPod first when they need a new MP3 player--but the X-Fi ...

Creative ZEN X-Fi with Wireless LAN

By Tim Gideon

Although saddled with a clunky name, Creative's ZEN X-Fi with Wireless LAN offers plenty of features including wireless capabilities at a great price. Sure, I was occasionally frustrated with the unpolished user interface and the overwhelming number ...

Streams and downloads music wirelessly. FM Radio and voice recorder. Quality earphones are included

User interface needs work. Most videos need to be converted with the included software. Loaded with buttons

Armed with wireless streaming features, but hindered by an irksome user interface, the affordable ZEN X-Fi is a solid player, but lacks the graceful navigation of devices from Apple or Samsung.

The player comes with Creative Centrale, an app that organizes your PC's music and media, and can convert your video files that won't play nice with the ZEN X-Fi. Wireless functionality aside, the ZEN X-Fi is a solid PMP that comes with...

Creative ZEN X-Fi reviewed, but mostly just taken apart

Not a ton's changed with Creative's ZEN X-Fi -- which we all well know at this point -- so for right now we're just paying closer attention to its innards all broken out like a science fair project. Careful, the teardown link below contains graphic ...

Very good sound quality ; included ear buds are excellent ; attractive interface

Buttons are small and are not backlit ; lacks wireless sync and web browsing

The built-in X-Fi technology intelligently moves a conventional left/right earphone stereo source away from your ears, virtually expanding it for an audio experience with a breathtakingly realistic depth of field.
