WriteRoom 2.1

By Tony Smith

A fine, low-cost tool for jotting down everything from thoughts to that novel you always know you had in you.

iPhone App Review Yes, the iPhone has its Notes app, but with its notepad-lookalike graphics and mock handwriting font - which you can't easily change - it was always more a showcase for the Apple graphic design team's talents than a tool you'd want...

WriteRoom 2.3 review

By Nathan Alderman

One of the first tools designed to make it easier to be productive, WriteRoom 2.3 works by removing all distractions from the Mac OS X desktop. We take a look to see how well it performs.

Removes distractions while writing, incredibly customisable, easy to use

Expensive for what it does, "edit in WriteRoom" plug-in doesn't work in Leopard

WriteRoom is designed for one function - to help you write without distractions.

Programmer Jesse Grosjean designed WriteRoom to block out the distractions of other programs and WriteRoom's minimalist interface also frees you from the urge to fiddle with margins, fonts and other settings, leaving you nothing to do but write....

Hog Bay Software WriteRoom 2.2

Once, text editors were clean, sleek tools, designed primarily for -shock! - writing. Anyone who once used Word 5.1 might now shed a tear upon its mention and then get slightly angry at the current state of writing tools for the Mac - many of which ...

Live word count and character count, Customisable interface, Saves to various formats

Open Recent doesn't work in full-screen, Plug-in doesn't work with many apps

It's a niche product, but WriteRoom is a great choice for any Mac-based writer

For those of us who just want to get on with writing, without distractions, WriteRoom is here to save the day. If you're used to the palette- and icon-heavy applications typically used to work with text on your Mac, WriteRoom may come as a bit of...

Hog Bay Software WriteRoom 2.2

By default, the application offers green text on a black background that screens out everything else on your Mac

Open Recent doesn't work in full-screen, Plug-in doesn't work with many apps

WriteRoom isn't feature-packed, but it's not meant to be. It's not trying to be a layout package or an all-domineering Office application. It's just trying to help you avoid getting distracted - and therefore do your word processing as quickly and ...
