Space-saving design ; robust software ; interactive LCD menu ; dual-paper feeds ; fast graphics and photo prints ; auto-duplexer included
Poor print quality ; expensive ; no fax machine ; flimsy paper cassette ; slow text output speed ; unreliable wireless performance ; unique gray ink can be hard to find
The Canon Pixma MP980 multifunction printer, copier, and scanner are a step up from its predecessor, but the print quality isn't up to standard and it doesn't perform as quickly as the competition. The HP Photosmart Premium Fax all-in-one is a less ...
The Canon Pixma MP980 is a capable all-in-one device that prints, faxes, and copies documents in full color 4,800x9,600-pixel resolution, thanks to a unique six color ink bay that includes a special gray cartridge for more distinct grayscale...
Canon's Pixma MP980 color inkjet multifunction printer offers many premium-level features for photo enthusiasts. For its price ($300 as of 12/09/2008), it could be better in some ways, but it is, at least, progressive.
Intuitive control-panel design Dual input trays; automatic duplexing
Expensive; odd colorings on plain paper Rattletrap rear input-tray design
Ink costs are reasonable. The machine ships with standard-size cartridges: a 344-page pigment black (K), and 447-page photo gray, cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y). A replacement pigment black costs $13.99 (4.1 cents per page). The other colors ...
Compared to the competition in our tests, the Pixma MP980 achieved average speeds of 8.1 pages per minute (ppm) printing text and 2.5 ppm printing graphics--but they're far short of Canon's claims of 26 ppm for text and 21 ppm for graphics....
Award: Editor's Choice!
As Canon's replacement for the Editors' Choice Pixma MP970 Photo All-In-One, the Pixma MP980 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer ($299.99 direct) has a lot to live up to. Both models are what I like to call photo-lab all-in-ones (AIOs). You can use them ...
High-quality photos. Scans and prints from 35mm film. Network and Wi-Fi support. Built-in duplexer.
No fax support. Clumsy network installation. Can't set network support to accept both wired and wireless connections.
The Canon Pixma MP980 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer is a prime example of a photocentric all-in-one (AIO) that can also function as a standalone home photo lab.
Like the MP970 before it, the Canon Pixma MP980 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer has room for improvement, but its flaws are forgivable. Check out the Canon Pixma MP980 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer's performance test results I installed the...
Canon's well-engineered MP line has impressed us even at the low end with the MP620 and the top of the line MP980 simply fills out our wish list with film scanning and duplex printing. It may still only have four color inks but they do the job of six. ...
Having reviewed (and therefore lived with) several multifunction devices over the last year, we've come to expect a glitch here and there. A function not well implemented, a feature forgotten, quality that was good-enough but not great. The attraction ...
The Pixma MP980 all-in-one inkjet printer's design exudes stylish professionalism. It also includes a number of handy features that make life much easier for the home photo enthusiast, such an 89mm LCD screen, easy-to-use control panel and media-card ...

The Canon Pixma MP980's print quality isn't up to standard and it doesn't perform as quickly as the competition. The HP Photosmart Premium Fax all-in-one is a less expensive alternative that adds value with a fax machine and faster, higher-quality ...

canon pixma mp980 review: The Canon Pixma MP980 multifunction printer, copier, and scanner is a step up from its predecessor, but the print quality isn't up to standard and it doesn't perform as quickly as the competition.

This color inkjet MFP is a little pricey but offers premium features for photo enthusiasts.
The control panel (integrated into the scanner lid) is innovatively designed. Taking a cue from Apple's iPod, it features a scroll wheel that you push to rotate through menu items shown on the large, tiltable, 3.5-inch color LCD. Rotating feels faster ...
Jajah is a VoIP service with a difference: rather than download software to your PC or mobile, Jajah uses web-activated dialling.
Considering the Canon Pixma MP980's price, we would have liked a faster machine with fewer oddities. However, it's solidly built and reasonably priced to run, and therefore still well worth considering.
WITH agonising slow speeds and print quality issues, the Canon PIXMA MP980 multifunction is a disappointing machine.
Ethernet connectivity, automatic duplexing, film negative and 35mm slide scanning, good scan quality
Agonisingly slow print speeds, some print quality issues
Though the MP980 offers some decent features, its printing speeds and some quality issues make for a disappointing machine, particularly from Canon.
Gaining access to the ink cartridges is harder than with previous PIXMA multifunctions. This is somewhat understandable due to the weight of the unit's upper half, but the inner cover's hinges lack the smoothness that made past PIXMA units easier...
