JVC DLA-HD1

By David Katzmaier

JVC's first relatively affordable 1080p DILA (aka LCoS) projector has garnered a lot of praise on Internet forums recently. The DLA-HD1's coveted 1080p resolution, at a price somewhere between the Sony VPL-VW50 (aka the Pearl) and its big brother, the ...

The JVC DLA-HD1 projector does a lot of things very well at a reasonable price for a 1080p projector. If JVC were to improve color accuracy, it would be a world-class product.

In most areas of picture quality, JVC's DLA-HD1 is certainly an excellent 1080p projector. As an LCoS-based unit--JVC calls it DILA--the DLA-HD1 employs three separate liquid crystal on silicon panels, which has the advantage of avoiding any...

JVC DLA-HD1

The JVC DLA-HD1 projector does a lot of things very well at a reasonable price for a 1080p projector. If JVC were to improve color accuracy, it would be a world-class product.

Reproduces deep shade of black; solid video processing; excellent feature package; numerous picture adjustments, including LCoS panel alignment.

Primary colors, especially green, are quite inaccurate, making overall color fidelity suffer

JVC DLA-HD1

The JVC DLA-HD1 is one heck of a projector, with the best blacks I've yet seen. Detail is exceptional and shadow detail is better than many displays can manage. Aside from the frustrating menu system, I'd be very happy living with this puppy.

The DLA-HD1 brings Full HD to your home with the industry's highest native contrast ratio. There is neither an iris mechanism nor a compromise in the DLA-HD1 projector. D-ILA is a mature technology, perfected by JVC, which can reproduce the...

JVC DLA-HD1 1920x1080 Home Theater Projector

By Thomas J. Norton

The big story of the past couple of years has been the dramatic drop (or, from the industry's view, erosion) in the price of flat panel displays, both LCD and plasma.

Sharp, crisp image, Superb blacks and shadow detail, Quiet (but not silent), Remarkable value

Lacks separate high and low color temperature adjustments, Color points could be more accurate

JVC DLA-HD1 D-ILA Projector: On the Bench

By Shane Buettner

If Sony owned CEDIA after introducing the Pearl, JVC's DLA-HD1 was themost talked about PJ coming out of CES 2007. The DLA-HD1 is a three-chip 1080p rig that uses improved fill factor and a new optical engine with improved light polarization to get ...

JVC True Black DLA-HD1

By Brian Thomas

JVC's 1080p DLA-HD1 projector isn't exactly cheap but its specification is impressive -- its technology produces pictures with stunningly deep blacks and astounding levels of contrast

Extremely deep black levels ; very natural looking colours ; quiet fan

Pictures look a tad soft ; pricier than some of its 1080p competitors ; large and bulky

JVC's DLA-HD1 is a ground-breaking projector in that it beams out images with extremely natural colours and black levels to a degree that we've not seen before in this price range. Our praise, however, is tempered by the fact it's not quite as sharp ...

JVC has done its best to camouflage this bulky frame with a slick looking piano-black finish and a luxurious silver stripe down the centre, however the size of the projector will still be an issue for many as it won't, for example, fit on an...

Project beast

Deep black levels and natural colours

Images could be brighter. Pictures look a bit soft

It throws out excellent pictures, but it does suffer by being so big.

JVC's projector is a beast, so you'll either need to have it professionally mounted on your ceiling, or get a very sturdy shelf or an extremely strong wife. Using JVC's own version of LCOS technology, which gene-splices DLP and LCD into a new race...

JVC DLA-HD1

OK, so the JVC DLA-HD1 is no looker - but under that blandly styled exterior lurks a real beast of a performer

Great picture performance. A very quiet unit

The looks are an acquired taste and it is very, very big

JVC DLA HD1

JVC may have been struggling of late, but it has certainly raised the bar with its Full HD D-ILA projector. John Archer puts it to the test, and needs a lie down afterwards.
