We love it when a TV manufacturer remembers that most people don't live in enormous mansions. It's great for us plebs who live in lowly flats and modest houses to have a TV with the latest technology and excellent picture quality. Philips' 9603 does ...

That remote control wheel will drive you round the bend ; not very cheap ; bright backlight in dark scenes
This is a good, sturdy TV for people who want high-end performance on a smaller scale. Picture and sound both help to sell the package and the styling is clean, fresh and attractive
Digital SLRs are big, heavy and awkward to lug around. So what do you do if you want SLR-style capabilities in a pocket-sized package? With its 12-megapixel sensor, wideangle zoom and hands-on controls, the ? Ricoh GX200 sounds like the perfect...
Light up your life
Ambilight, judder-free Blu-ray pictures, four HDMI inputs, bass-heavy sound
Poor remote, PC networking falters, expensive
The fabulously featured 37PFL9603D comes dangerously close to completely redrawing the battle lines between LCD and plasma TVs
Found on the 37PFL9603D in its Spectra 2 "stereo" manifestation, the Ambilight engine monitors what's playing on the TV and projects similar coloured light from strips of LEDs. Ambilight is best seen as an extra feature because the 37PFL9603D is...
Can Philips' latest high-end, big screen TV live with the ever improving competition?
For so far as we can tell the crunch accounts for the apparent no-show in the UK of Philips' 52in 9603 and 9703 TVs, and the seemingly very limited stocks of the 47in 47PFL9603D we're looking at today. If you're a fan of really high-end TVs - TVs...
The Philips 47PFL9603D is a 47-inch full-HD (1920 x 1080p) LCD telly with a contrast ratio of 30,000:1 and a screen brightness of 500cd/m2. Features include the Perfect Pixel HD engine, Ambilight Spectra and a digital Freeview tuner. Connectivity-wise ...
Boasting a dizzying array of picture processing wizardry this 47-inch LCD television is brimming with features, including full 1920 x 1080 resolution and four HDMI connections, so you can hook up a Sky HD box, Xbox 360, PS3 and erm, anything else Hi ...
For the price, the sound is only just better than average. It's still good, but for close to two grand, you'd be well within your rights to expect something more in keeping with the rest of the telly
We won't beat around any bushes (unless they're on fire): Philips knows how to make televisions. Here it's shoved everything bar the kitchen sink into this gogglebox and it shows.
Award: Recommended!

It may only be a 32-incher, but Philips' 32PFL9603 LCD TV is a genuine benchmark setter.
The PFL9603H displays nice images but mainly suffers from dynamic modifications to the gamma curve which cannot be deactivated. Otherwise, blacks are a little to grayish.
This TV takes some tweaking to get it performing well, but once you do, it€™s stunning
Stylish design ; good build ; excellent performance €" eventually
Remote control isn€™t the best ; takes longer than other sets to get it performing well
It looks pretty and pictures are excellent, but it's a bit of a pain to set up and use
Gorgeous looking set with Ambilight on or off ; fantastic detail and edge definition ; one of the most balanced and natural colour performances around ; great spec ; decent sound
Pointless processing modes ; ill-conceived remote ; more noise than most
