The Philips Cineos 42PFL9703 is the 42-inch version of the next generation of Ambilight LCD TVs, with more rear-mounted lights than ever before to enhance your movie-watching experience. With four HDMI inputs, full 1080p and cleverly designed speakers ...
Picture and sound quality ; improved Ambilight ; decent selection of inputs ; attractive styling
Price ; menus are a little ugly ; remote control scroll wheel is a pain sometimes
This is the most impressive Philips TV we've seen for some time. The picture and sound quality are both excellent and the Ambilight is an improvement over the older two strip version. It does add to the movie experience, although perhaps not enough to ...
The Olympus SP-570 UZ is an extremely promising superzoom, with the widest op tical zoom range of any compact camera at 20x, plus built-in image stabilisation, a 1cm macro mode, full manual controls and the ability to shoot at an incredible ISO 6,400....
Good picture quality, four HDMI inputs
High price, 100Hz mode flickers, not many legacy inputs
It has all the right specifications, but an imperfect 100Hz mode and a lack of inputs for older devices stop the 42PFL903D being an easy choice.
Philips' latest 42-inch LCD offers good picture quality and plenty of digital inputs in a design suited to modern decor. The 42PFL9703D is a model that's targeted directly at other class-leading LCD ranges, like Sony's latest Bravias. The...
AN imperfect 100Hz mode and a lack of inputs for older devices prevent this from being an easy choice.

The 42PFL9703D is a model that competes directly with other class-leading LCD ranges, like Sony's latest Bravias.
Devoid of an HD digital tuner, the PFL9703D loses a star compared to the H version.
The PFL9703H does produce nice images; however, it mainly suffers from its dynamic gamma correction that cannot be deactivated and black that could be deeper.

Until we get our hands on Philips?' new generation of Aurea TVs, with their unique light-frame design, the brand?'s PFL9703D models represent the pinnacle of the brand?'s current TV range. One interesting little point about the rear-firing sound...
philips 42pfl9703d review: On first impressions, the 42-inch Philips 42PFL9703D is a potential Bravia-killer with stylish curves and a 100Hz system that is the best we've ever seen.
Decent picture quality, Good blacks and off-axis viewing, Great design, Four HDMI inputs, High price, Set-up wizard can make picture worse, 100Hz mode is poor, Minimum of non-HDMI inputs

No, this was a demo of the Philips 42PFL9703D's Perfect Natural Motion system and we were gobsmacked. The Philips includes the relatively new 100Hz technology that has proven to be pretty flaky on its competitors, but based on the Philips demo,...
This Dutch flagship has most of the essentials covered. These range from a brilliant 2,250 trillion color palette to a 100Hz engine and quad HDMIs.
Overall sharp and clean visuals ; rich and accurate colors ; comprehensive multimedia playback ; four HDMI ports, coaxial digital audio output ; sleek design
Grayish black ; occasional mild motion artifacts ; basic remote ; XGA-capped PC input
Another nice touch is its matching glass swivel stand. Though it still attracts dust like a magnet, the material is less prone to nasty scratches compared to plastic. For alternative mounting options, this tabletop stand can be swapped for a VESA wall ...
Philips' flagship 9703-series looks and feels just like any other of its 2008 panels. But there's more than meets the eye beneath its refreshingly new skin. Jam-packed with the company's latest technological bells and whistles, the supercharged...
