alaTest wins Red Herring Global 100 January 19, 2009 Stockholm, Sweden - Jan 8, 2009 - alaTest, the market and technology leader in product quality information, today announced that it has won the Red Herring Top Global 100 award, as one of the top technology start-ups in the world. The award caps a year of unprecedented growth for alaTest in which the company achieved profitability, secured a large round of financing and expanded its client base to include companies like Kelkoo, Shopzilla, Neckermann, Sony Ericsson and Intel. The award is the second alaTest has received from Red Herring, which also named alaTest to its 2008 Top 100 Europe list.
The Red Herring editorial team rigorously reviewed 1,200 privately held companies from around the world to select the Global 100 winners. Red Herring 100 regional winners and finalists from North America, Europe, and Asia of the last three years were eligible for the award. The evaluation is based on both quantitative and qualitative criteria such as financial performance, innovation, management and global strategy.
"I am incredibly proud of what alaTest, with its small but highly skilled team, has accomplished since the launch in 2005. The fact that our users appreciate the service is the one thing I am most pleased about.”, said Arie Struik, founder and CEO of alaTest. "Receiving this award is a fantastic opportunity to meet some of the greats in the industry in their own backyard in California; Google, Yahoo and CNET to name but a few. It is very encouraging to find that apparently they are already aware of our existence. It shows that our business model, to not only present the aggregated reviews on our own sites but to also provide our partners with the content, is the right approach for alaTest.”.
alaTest has successfully built up a portal for product quality comparison as well as a unique method for syndication of the aggregated product review data to business-to-business partners, in order for them to better inform their visitors and thereby increase their sales. The alaTest database currently contains more than five million reviews and alaTest websites received more than 3.6 million visitors in December of 2008. The service is currently available in 15 markets including the USA, Germany, France, United Kingdom, China and soon Japan.
"Winning the European award was great but of course winning the Red Herring Global Award one the year later as well takes us to a whole new level, especially here in the US”, said a happy and grateful Arie Struik, in San Diego to receive the award.
Arie Struik also participated in the expert panel of Web 3.0: Semantic Web.
