Samsung Gear Fit review: a messy merger of fitness band and smartwatch

Fitness trackers and smartwatches come a dime a dozen, but devices that combine the best of both? Still exceedingly rare. Now, however, Samsung thinks it has...

I'll give Samsung credit where it's due: It's one of the first companies to blend a fitness tracker with a smartwatch, and there is indeed a market for such a device. In terms of hardware, the company did a fantastic job crafting a curved device that...

Samsung Gear Fit review

Gorgeous curved Super AMOLED screen ; Notifications work for all apps ; Silky smooth scrolling ; Easy to use software interface ; Cool heart-rate monitor

Long screen is awkward to use ; Plastic strap is cheap ; Charging dongle is awkward ; Pedometer is inaccurate ; Fitness features are half-baked

The Gear Fit is a gorgeous piece of tech, and has an effective interface, but underneath the shimmer and gloss, it’s a mid-rate smartwatch and a poor fitness tracker. If getting phone notifications on your wrist is worth $200 (and you own a Galaxy...

Samsung Gear Fit review: A half-step forward for the future of smart bands

The best of a fitness band and smartwatch, or a compromise? Samsung's ambitious Gear Fit isn't great enough to be the killer device yet, but it's trying.

The Gear Fit has a forward-looking design, many more extras than the average fitness band, and the ability to measure heart rate. Its curved AMOLED display looks fantastic, too.

The long display means text reads awkwardly on your wrist. The Fit only works with certain Samsung phones. Can’t load apps, so you’re stuck with the features included. And the price is high, so much so that you might consider a cheaper alternative or...

The Samsung Gear Fit is a great-looking wearable, but doesn't successfully reconcile its dual roles as activity tracker and smartwatch.

Samsung Gear Fit review

I'm in the final stretch. My legs are aching; I'm drenched in sweat. The finish line is near, I can feel it. My wrist buzzes. An email: Amazon finally shipped my order of Rice Krispies Treats...

Great display ; Handsome design ; Comfortable strap

Inaccurate step counting and heart rate readings ; Awkward screen dimensions ; Limited smartwatch functions

Samsung Gear Fit

The gorgeous Samsung Gear Fit is part fitness tracker and part smartwatch, but it's mainly an accessory for recent Samsung devices; if you want either an activity tracker or a smartwatch specifically, you can do better.

Part smartwatch, part fitness tracker. Supports bicycling. Records sleep. Smartwatch notifications are well implemented. Touch-screen enabled. Very, very pretty.

Not functionally independent; requires a supported Samsung device. Pedometer not enabled by default. Touch screen too sensitive to use while in motion. Requires two apps to use fully. Short battery life.

The notifications work great. I turned them on via the Gear Fit Manager app for text messages, and noticed some options for previewing incoming messages on the Gear Fit. You can set the watch to display only the first few lines of each incoming...

Samsung Gear Fit review

Somewhere in my first few days of using the Gear Fit, I stared at the band on my wrist. Curved display, eye-popping colors. A notification was on my wrist: someone liked my last tweet. My sister posted new photos on Facebook. I pressed the heart rate...

Samsung Gear Fit Review

The Samsung Gear Fit is very close to being a concept brought to life. With its shard of curved full-color AMOLED touchscreen and unusually narrow design, the smartwatch/fitness band hybrid is certainly eye-catching - the number of people who've...

Samsung’s Gear Fit leaves us torn. On the one hand, it’s the most space-age and glamorous of the wrist-worn wearables we’ve tested so far, with the genuinely pleasing curved AMOLED display seeing us tapping and swiping for their own sake. It makes...

Samsung Gear Fit Review

The Samsung Gear Fit is a cross-over device between a smartwatch and a fitness tracker with Star Trek looks and killer style…

Killer style ; Extremely light, you can almost forget you are wearing it ; Gorgeous curved Super AMOLED display ; Rich notification system ; Water and dust-resistant, you can even shower with it

Fitness tracking is not on par with others: exercise tracking and pedometer are less accurate ; Compatibility limited to Samsung devices only ; Pricey ; Heart-sensor is dishearteningly slow ; Sleep tracking does not yield much usable data

The Samsung Gear Fit price is set at the costly $199 (€199 in Europe), nearly double the price of entry-level fitness trackers, and higher than even the pricey $130 Fitbit Force and $150 Nike FuelBand+. It’s also costlier than the $150 Pebble...

Samsung Gear Fit : Ready to Kick the FitBit? [Review]

Back when the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Gear 2 were launching, we expected those. What was surprising to us all was this circular Samsung device called the Samsung Gear Fit. This device looked like it was created to take a chunk out of the fitness band...

The Samsung Gear Fit is a fitness band with a unique curved display and heart rate monitor. But how does this wearable device differ from Samsung's other offerings like the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo?
