Sonos Play:5

The Sonos Play:5 speaker justifies its very high price by delivering excellent wireless audio in a seamless, simple design that's expandable to serve every room of your house.

Powerful audio performance with seriously deep bass and accurate highs. Easy setup. Expandable to multiple rooms. Can be used as part of a stereo pair.

Pricey. No Bluetooth.

Sonos Play:5 review (2015): a generational leap forward

The all-new Sonos Play:5 is the company's first major hardware revision; a fresh flagship for its fleet of WiFi-enabled speakers. Sonos' products have always be...

Simple setup and tuning ; Easy to turn into multi-room system with other, cheaper Sonos speakers ; Audio quality is excellent ; Long list of supported services ; Line-in adds limitless music options

Searching for music in app is cumbersome ; No dedicated remote ; Priced even higher than previous generation

The Play:5 is the best speaker Sonos has ever made. Its reliance on a single app for controlling all your audio services means the software experience isn't quite as slick as it could be, but it's easy to set up and sounds as good as its $499 price tag...

Review: Sonos Play:5

It's difficult to only “dip a toe” into Sonos. Sure, if you must, you can just buy a single speaker. Each of the company's products does just fine as a solo speaker for wireless music streaming in your home.

Newly redesigned speaker enclosure with a more open, bright sound. Understated visual design will blend in easily with your decor. Touch controls for playing, pausing, switching tracks, and changing volume. Can be configured to work on its own or as...

Software calibration is interesting from a technological standpoint, but results may vary. It's also iOS-only. $500 is pricey, especially for a speaker system that really works best if you have more than one

Software calibration tricks aren’t the reason to buy this speaker, anyway. The reason I’m recommending it is because it’s simply the most advanced and most complete piece of hardware Sonos makes. If you want to get an idea of a company’s vision for the...

Sonos PLAY:5 (2015) Review

The Sonos PLAY:5 is special. First of the streaming music company's all-in-one speakers, its launch in 2009 marked a shift to the plug-and-play simplicity that Sonos is now known for, without sacrificing the sound quality that music lovers demanded....

Streaming music has come a long way in the five years since Sonos launched the original PLAY:5 – née S5 – with some of the biggest changes being cost of entry. Sonos’ own range is more affordable, with the $199 PLAY:1, but alternatives like Google’s...

Sonos Play:5 (2015 edition) review: It’s difficult to imagine a better-sounding networked speaker at this price

The king of multi-room audio retains its crown with this exceptional new flagship speaker.

Wonderfully musical to listen to ; Sonos's mesh network makes for outstanding whole-home audio ; Terrific price/performance ratio

Not as high fidelity than the more expensive B&W Zeppelin Wireless ; No threaded mount

Sonos knocks one out of the park with the all-new Play:5. This is a spectacular speaker either on its own or as part of a whole-home audio system.

Sonos Play:5 (2015) review

In the last few years Sonos has been steadily adding wireless speakers to its multiroom audio lineup , but its flagship tabletop speaker, the Play:5 hasn't changed in 6 years. Until now, that is. This is the new Play:5 (2015), and it's a bigger,...

The second-generation Sonos Play:5 is a sleek, well-designed Wi-Fi speaker that delivers rich sound for its size and strong bass. It offers the full Sonos wireless experience, controllable from iPhone, iPad and Android apps, with compatibility with...

Fairly pricey, especially if you want to buy a second one for stereo sound.

While fairly pricey the second-gen Play:5 is the best-sounding Sonos speaker yet.

Sonos Play: 5 ( 2015, Black)

It comes in two colors -- white and black -- and can be placed either horizontally or vertically in three different orientations. I personally liked the look of it standing vertically, and while the Play:5 works well as a single speaker with a wider...

Sonos New PLAY:5: Great Sound at All Angles

Wireless speaker leader Sonos has replaced its flagship PLAY:5 with a new speaker called... the PLAY:5. This new model replaces its six-year-and-two-day-old predecessor in the line-up, though new PLAY:5 has been designed and engineered from the ground...

Astoundingly wide stereo field, it's ability to rotate and its sound in all rotations are stellar. Easily links with your existing wireless network making setup a breeze for new and expanding users alike

Multitouch controls for play and pause don't provide the tactile feel of a physical button

Sonos’s new PLAY:5 shares a name with the speaker it replaces in Sonos’s lineup but, make no mistake, this is a brand new device. With its amazing sound dispersion, its multitouch interface, its ability to rotate and simply its looks, this is a...

Sonos knocks one out of the park with the all-new Play:5. This is a spectacular speaker either on its own or as part of a whole-home audio system. View full product specs » Price when rated:$499

Wonderfully musical to listen to ; Sonos's mesh network makes for outstanding whole-home audio ; Terrific price/performance ratio

If you're looking for a single networked speaker and can afford to spend $200 more, B&W's Zeppelin Wireless is the product to beat. But if you're planning to build out a network of speakers in your home, or even if your budget won't stretch to $699,...

Sonos PLAY:5 Review

The Sonos PLAY:5 has outstanding sound quality. That's a big reason it is among the best wireless speakers in our lineup. It doesn't matter what style of music or genre you prefer to listen to – it all sounds great coming out of the PLAY:5. The speaker...

This is one of the best-sounding speakers in our lineup.

It lacks Bluetooth connectivity.

If having multiple connectivity options isn't a priority, the sound quality alone makes this speaker well worth owning.
