Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 12-60mm 1:2.8-4.0 SWD Lens Review

The Digital Zuiko ED 12-60mm 1:2.8-4.0 SWD is Olympus's latest upmarket standard zoom, announced to accompany its E-3 flagship DSLR in October 2007. Firmly placed in what Olympus refers to as its 'Pro' lens lineup, this lens offers a near-ideal focal...

Very useful wideangle to telephoto range ; Superb optics ; Excellent build quality, dust and splash-proof ; Impressive resistance to flare ; Decent macro performance

Pronounced and complex distortion at wideangle ; Slightly sub-par lens hood ; Shadowing of built-in flash at wideangle on smaller bodies ; Expensive

Olympus were in a unique position when entering the digital SLR market; with no legacy 35mm autofocus mount, they were free (or depending upon your point of view, forced) to design a whole new system from scratch. Their chosen solution was to use a...

i ended up going back to the kit lens

This is a high quality lens in construction and build, but call me unsophisticated, i couldn't tell any difference in image quality between the 14-42mm lens and this one, so i was just a bit disappointed, seeing as how this lens cost nearly a thousand...

Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 SWD

The 12-60mm is an awesome lens. Very comparable to the 14-54mm. It is heavy and weather sealed. It looks, feels and performs like a pro lens. As far as focus well what can I say. It is fast and accurate, faster than the 14-54mm. Maybe but if so not by...

Tough, Sharp, Fast, Weather sealed. Great range of focal length, A perfect walk around lens, splendid in low light.

None that I see. If you don't want a heavy lens then maybe that could be a weakness.

A must have for 4/3 system

A must have for 4/3 system

For smaller cameras E-5xx,E-4xx, and E-6xx you may not be able to use internal flash since the size of this lense will block some of the light. You may see the hood in your picture when you choose 12mm zoom. Design defect? the quality is great and...

A great all around lens

A great all around lens

I purchased the 12-60mm lens to use as an everyday travel lens. It replaced a 14-54mm MkI lens. The lens is a stunning performer providing a bit more focal range on both ends. While I liked the output of the 14-54mm MKI, the superior sharpness and...

Phenomenal little standard zoom

Phenomenal little standard zoom

After 9 months of steady use I have to say this is the best zoom lens I've shot with. If you're a 4/3 user at some point you need to try out this lens! This and the 50-200 SWD plus the 50mm macro are in my opinion "must-haves" for any 4/3 shooter. ...

Pricey, but worth it

I bought this to replace my 14-54 because I wanted a wider lens with more reach. It was the only lens I took on an 18 day European trip and never missed any of my other lenses. If I could only have one lens, this would be it, without any doubt!

Excellent focal range, pretty fast (light), fast focus (especially on the E-3 or E-30)

Price, but it's worth it
