Samsung BD-D8900M review

Who cares about Blu-ray? Firmly ensconced in the PlayStation 3, standalone hi-def disc spinners regularly go for under £90 – small enough bean to set the alarm bells ringing in any gadget buyer's ears. The trick, thinks Samsung, is to up the price...

WiFi, Freeview HD functionality, user interface, huge HDD

Can’t burn to Blu-ray, HDD is noisy in operation, can’t stream and record TV simultaneously, only records one channel at a time, slow EPG

Good overall, if a little expensive. If it had twin tuners, and could stream while it was recording, this would probably get an even better score. If you can get it for a good price, you should consider doing so

With its 1TB hard drive and Smart TV functionality, this Freeview+ HD/Blu-ray combi promises to tick all the boxes

3D Blu-ray playback ; Huge hard drive ; Content-rich Smart Hub portal

Network functionality disabled during PVR recording ; Component output restricted to SD ; Network streaming dependant on compliant media server software

Recommended!

Convergence is king with Samsung's 3D Blu-ray deck with built-in 1TB hard disk and Freeview HD

Amazing feature list ; Slick internet and DLNA functionality ; Blu-ray & HD channel picture quality

Some menus slow to respond ; Can't record two channels simultaneously ; No Blu-ray recording

All-in-all, the BD-D8900M is a wonderful advertisement for convergence, melding together various AV components into a slick, single-box unit. It’s positively bursting with cutting-edge features too, ranging from Wi-Fi media streaming to comprehensive...

Samsung BD-D8900 Blu-ray player and DVR combo

Review On the face of it, Samsung's BD-D8900 seems to be the ideal convergence product that will allow you to get rid of the stack of boxes that hide under your TV. Not only does this deck act as a 3D-compatible Blu-ray player, but it also has an...

Overall, the BD-D8900 is a mixed bag. On the one hand it has a beautifully designed user interface that makes its DVR and impressive internet features easy to use. It also offers good 3D Blu-ray play back and supports a wide range of media formats from...

Samsung BD-D8900

With gadgets like the Sony PS3 offering blu-ray functionality, it's easy to think that dedicated Blu-ray players have had their day. However, players like the Samsung BD-D8900 have a lot more to offer than just movie playback – including 3D technology...

The Samsung BD-D8900 is a great gadget if you just want to have a single box under the TV. Not only does it play back 2D and 3D Blu-ray discs, it can also replace your Freeview box, HDD recorder and more. It's even capable of converting 2D images to 3D

With so many features on offer, it's hard to pick fault with the Samsung BD-D8900. For us, the biggest fault is the inability to record two channels at once, but it's not exactly a show stopper

The Samsung BD-D8900 is a wonderful gadget, and a real jack of all trades. With so many features, it's easy to think that it would struggle to excel in any one area, but overall the BD-D8900 succeeds in almost everything it turns a hand to.
