LG BD550 review

If you have Ethernet connectivity in your living room, the smart move is to go with an entry-level Blu-ray player. Most such players available in 2010 offer much of the functionality of step-up models, minus built-in Wi-Fi. That's the case with the LG...

Excellent Blu-ray image quality; Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, Pandora, and CinemaNow streaming; plays music, videos, and pictures off a connected USB drive; relatively quick load times compared with other entry-level Blu-ray players.

No DLNA compatibility, so you can't stream digital media from a networked computer; user interface is overdesigned; no onboard storage; must manually change the output mode to 1080p.

Quick load times, excellent Blu-ray image quality, and a generous suite of streaming services make the LG BD550 a solid entry-level Blu-ray player.

LG BD550 Blu-ray Player Reviewed

LG plans to add four new models to its Blu-ray line this year. At the low end of the price spectrum is the BD550 ($229.99), which lacks the 3D support, integrated hard drive, and WiFi-readiness you'll find in the higher-priced models. But you do get...

The BD550 supports 1080p/24 playback of Blu-ray discs ; The player has internal decoding and bitstream output of high-resolution audio sources ; It supports BD-Live Web content and can play picture-in-picture bonus content ; The NetCast Web platform...

The BD550 lacks multichannel analog audio outputs, so it's not the best choice for someone who owns an older, non-HDMI A/V receiver ; The player does not have built-in WiFi or internal storage for BD-Live ; It also lacks an advanced control port like...

Even though LG lists the BD550's price at $229.99, this Blu-ray player is actually available for well under $200 at major retailers, and its list of features is generally on par with other players in that price class. Moving up the price chain in LG's...

LG BD550

The LG BD 550 is LG's new entry level model similar in features to the BD570 except for the lack of Wi-Fi capabilities. It features a sleek crystal-edge design; smooth 1080p 24/60hz high-def video and high resolution 192khz surround sound for an...

As an entry level player sub $200 player, the LG BD550 sure packs in a host of features that will satisfy and perhaps overwhelm the first time user. At this price point it will win a lot of converts to the world high definition entertainment.

LG BD550

LG's BD550 produces decent images and sound and can be networked to take advantage of BD-Live features — just so long as you don't mind laying some Ethernet cable.

No DLNA compatibility, so you can't stream digital media from a networked computer ; User interface is over-designed ; No on-board storage ; Must manually change the output mode to 1080p

Good Entry Blu-ray

Ever since I got this for Christmas it has worked very well, online apps worked well, but recently I've had trouble with Netflix as some shows's audio and video don't sync up after pausing it for a while

Plays Blu-rays and DVDs real well, online apps work well

I bought this player just before Christmas, almost exactly 3 months ago. It had some trouble reading a few discs at first (only BD) but once it read them it played smoothly. I just purchased Stand By Me on Blu-Ray and tried to watched it, only to find...

So far it's played every DVD I've tried without fail. It played my Blu-Ray Discs for a few months

The darn thing won't read any of my Blu-Rays

looks like price is already up $10 from when i bought it last week. too bad, was gonna buy one for my dad.

worked simple. plugged it into the wall. plugged a network cable from uverse dvr to this blue ray player. bam! i am watching netflix. it updated the firmware. very simple. i like the LG menus and interface better than my panasonic and its viera cast

sometimes netflix doesn't look as good of quality as on my wii. maybe it is just a high traffic time and its netflix fault, idk. it never skips or anything, maybe just a little grainy, if you are trying to look for something. or maybe i just never...
