Marantz BD7004

More and more blu-ray players are introduced into the market each week. Some manufacturers sugar coat the player by adding additional features that can easily tempt any movie lover to make the switch, but the Marantz BD7004 universal disc player plays...

The Marantz 7004 is not cheap by any means in this competitive niche where prices are dropping and playback quality inching up all the time. With the introduction of the excellent Oppo BDP-83, competing in this segment gets even harder. But what you...

Marantz Blu-ray BD7004

I have always wanted to own a Marantz product. Their reputation is excellent, very well made products and this product did not disappoint. The Blu-ray picture is razor sharp and the sound is just what I was looking for, crystal clear. I am very please...

It is a very nice bit of gear, with only the load times on some BD letting it down. If your one of those people that need to tailgate and over take at every opportunity while in peak hour traffic then this player isn't for you, but if you have 1 once...

picture reproduction is great. Does a good job of up scaling dvd's and i love the classy look

The only issue i have with this player are the load times they range from not bad to down right slow, movies like Avatar seem to take for ever, but since it does every thing else so well it's easy to live with

Make the step up to a mid-range Blu-ray player and you expect a lot for your money – does Marantz's unit deliver the hi-def goods?

Marantz's rich vein of form continues with another cracking Blu-ray player

Marantz BD7004 review

The Marantz BD7004 is the company's second-generation Blu-ray deck, and with a £700 price tag it's aimed squarely at home cinema die-hards. But does it justify that wallet-busting price tag? Read our full Marantz BD7004 review and find out.

Exceptional build quality, ultra-sharp pictures

No Wi-Fi or built-in memory for BD Live, no USB port

Fantastic build quality and performance, but lacks the wow factor of some cheaper rivals

Product Specifications

More than just a disc player, the BD7004 is a true media player. It combines both disc and memory card capability to extract the last iota of enjoyment from all your favorite entertainment files. But flexibility isn't its only forte. This player brings a half century of Marantz expertise in delivering the finest reproduction possible. The BD7004 reads virtually every popular disc format available today: Blu-ray (both commercial releases and recordable discs), DVDs (movies and DVD-R/RWs), as well as standard and recordable CDs. Then add SD and SDHC memory card capability. As far as Blu-ray discs go, note that the BD7004 is a "BD Live" player that conforms to the most recent Profile 2.0 specification. This means you can access additional content on the Internet provided, of course, that the player is connected to the web. You'll also be able to update the BD7004's "firmware" (a mini operating system) to take advantage of features as they become available. Cosmetically, the BD7004 sports the Marantz design. The sleek 3.5" contoured front panel combines both aluminum and reinforced resin composite to damp resonance and blend with virtually any decor. A second metal plate reinforces the player's top cover for increased vibration control. And the centrally located disc mechanism places the critical disc-laser interface in the middle of the chassis to minimize the kind of artifacts that could impact both audio and video quality. Controlling the BD7004 is easy. There's a hand-held controller for "out of the box" access to the player's many capabilities. There's a rear panel RS-232 jack so you or your installer can easily integrate this player into an advanced touch-screen control system. When used in more conventional systems, the BD7004's IR flasher input and output jacks make component-to-component connections simple.
