Panasonic DMP-BD80 Blu-ray Player Reviewed

Like its entry-level sibling (the DMP-BD60), the step-up DMP-BD80 is a Profile 2.0 player that includes the VIERA Cast Web service, with Amazon VOD and YouTube. This model adds Divx playback and multichannel analog audio outputs....

The player lacks internal memory, and Panasonic does not supply an SD card for storage of downloadable BD-Live content ; The player does not support wireless connectivity to your home network

The DMP-BD80 is a full-featured Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player that adds Viera Cast to view streamed movie/TV content. This model is competitively priced with other players that offer some type of streaming VOD function, but it lacks the wireless network...

Panasonic DMP-BD80 Blu-ray Disc PlayerReview

Building on last year's popular top of the line Blu-ray player, Panasonic adds VIERA Cast for online content access. Is it enough to slay the stiff stand-alone competition?

Combining the excellent video and audio performance of its predecessor, the DMP-BD55, with the convenience of online content access and a USB port, the DMP-BD80 is sure to be another hot seller for Panasonic.

Panasonic DMP-BD 80

The Panasonic DMP-BD 80 is a Blu-ray player released in February 2009. Though it carries a recommended retail price of 392 GBP, the device now sells for around 250 GBP online.

Superb 24p movie picture ; Excellent DVD playback ; Great multimedia functions ; Accesses YouTube videos online ; Low power-consumption ; Decodes all HD audio formats

Disc drive is too loud ; DVD "Film" mode must be activated manually each time

A real do-it-all! The DMP-BD 80 impresses with an almost perfect Blu-ray picture, as well as with modern multimedia and networking extras. Older receivers benefit from internally decoded HD audio, either as PCM or from the analog outputs, in...

Great Blu-Ray Player

Overall, I really like this player. The long load times are annoying, however this could be attributed to the fact that the player is connected to the internet and could be checking for updates or BD Live content. Once a disk is loaded the Top Menu...

Picture quality is fantastic, easy to set up, analog audio outputs, ethernet connection

long load times, Top Menu button never seems to work (see below)

Very sharp Blu-ray picture, great sound

First, I have a 50" Panasonic 720p TV and use a Sony HDMI cable to connect this BD-80K to the TV. I didn't know how much of a difference Blu-ray would be with a 720p, but it makes a big difference. I was leery about buying a Blu-ray player because the...

Very sharp Blu-ray picture, great sound. The analog outputs allow you to connect to an older receiver that doesn't have HDMI connections, quiet operation (no disc-spinning noise or fan noise)

No Netflix streaming, no wireless. Some Blu-ray discs take a little while to start up, but I don't have another Blu-ray player to compare the time to

great picture and awesome sound, even without all the 7.0 sound

not many features, remeber most people do not have internet connections in their living rooms

Pretty Good for blurays and DVDs (only!)

Beautiful Bluray player though DOES NOT come close to solving my original problem of only wanting to have one machine connected to the TV and receiver. Bottom line is that the ideal bluray player still hasn't been produced. I want one that plays AVIs...

Crisp beautiful image. Fabulous sound

Can't play correct screen aspect on AVIs as it stretches the image (yes, I've tried all the aspects offered on both the TV and bluray). Can't play DVD-RW which means I still need to connect 2 players to my TV. Also, CDs only come out on 2 speakers

Excellent Blu-Ray Player

I have owned this blu-ray player for just over a month. I use my BD player with a Samsung LN-52A630 LCD TV and a Harman Kardon AVR 445 stereo receiver. I opted for the higher end BD 80 (over the BD 60) because it has the 7.1 analog outputs for surround...

Picture and sound quality are amazing! Remote is easy to use. Set up menu is easy to follow. Analog outputs for 7.1 surround sound

Slower load times than the competition. Not as much fine control over the 7.1 audio settings as I would like (ie speaker cross over settings, etc.)
