Pioneer BDP-LX55 review

The way the Blu-ray player market has changed over the years is really quite remarkable. Essentially, the high-end has all but disappeared. Where once manufacturers could release hulking flagship players with price tags rivalling those of AVRs, today's...

Classy design and robust build; universal disc playback; twin HDMI outputs simplifies installation; excellent audio-visual performance

A welcome return to form for Pioneer

Quality build ; well-designed smartphone remote app ; detailed and agile picture

Lean sound ; lacks the inbuilt streaming functionality of several key rivals

A lovely player, but its limited smart features put it at a clear disadvantage in comparison with its rivals

Supreme A/V,Super-fast loading, Cast-iron grip with PQLS, Great build quality. Excellent playback of video incl. MKV files.... Used as a genuine BD/DVD/USB player is where its best.

Niggly Network features,Complicated set-up to get DLNA on devices, sometimes freezing using network.

Looks cool. Nice blue lights. Matches Pioneer amps in appearance. That's it.

You have to be right in front of the player to make the remote work. Remote design is AWFUL. Doesn't play nice with the iPad AVControl2012 app. Discs take a LONG TIME to load, and while it's loading, you don't know whether it's *actually* loading or not.
