Samsung BD-C5500

Whether you go for an entry-level Blu-ray player or a more expensive midrange model mostly comes down to whether you need one feature--built-in Wi-Fi. Samsung's BD-C5500 lacks built-in Wi-Fi (although it can be added with an $80 USB dongle), but comes...

Excellent Blu-ray image quality; Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, and Pandora media streaming, plus the expandable Samsung Apps platform; DLNA-compliant

Sluggish operational speed; no built-in Wi-Fi; compatible Wi-Fi dongle is too expensive; last year's Samsung Blu-ray players had questionable reliability

The BD-C5500's expandable Samsung Apps platform and DLNA compatibility make it stand out from other entry-level players, although it's one of the slower players we've tested.

Samsung BD-C5500

The BD-C5500 is Samsung's new entry level blu-ray player in the sub'00 market. Although it's an entry level player it does come with many of the latest features, multimedia capabilities and streaming content from the web.

Unreliable as a wireless Internet device.

Not a bad Blue Ray Player. BUT..for wireless Internet access - buy something else. Wasted days of service calls [reboot, updated firmware, router settings] only to discover that the faulty part was the Samsung USB adapter (add-on antenna for wireless...

Cheap - good value as a Blue Ray Player (only)

The Wireless Adapter WILL fail in less than a year, and costs about $100.00 ; Samsung refuses to stand behind this "add-on supply" even if it fails in a few months. NO replacement ; Sluggish startup ; VERY BAD interface for entering password characters...

OK for DVDs... awful for blu-rays.

it was ok for playing dvds. I didn't have a lot of blu ray movies so I didn't get to test out the blu ray features... now that Redbox is beginning to rent out blu ray movies, I've started renting blu ray films. Guess what? this bd-c5500 can only play 1...

netflix app is definitely a plus. but most other blu ray players have netflix now

It only plays 1 out of 5 blu ray movies rented from Redbox (and it also plays that 1 movie intermittently)... it kept giving error "cannot load disc". The same Redbox movies were tested against a Philips blu ray player and all of the movies played withou
