Samsung BD-D8500 review

Why take two hi-def sources into the shower when you can simply watch ‘n' go with Samsung's latest Blu-ray player/Freeview HD PVR combi? By forcing these two products into shared accommodation, Samsung is putting an unfeasible amount of content at your...

Abundant features; attractive new GUI; picture performance; Smart Hub and slick networking features

Slightly sluggish operation; can’t record two channels

Samsung BD-D8500 review

There's something decidedly low-rent about the word “combi”, but this two-into-one effort from Samsung is most definitely upmarket. Costing a whopping £380, it darn well should be, but wait until you see what it can do: 3D Blu-ray playback, Freeview HD...

Freeview HD, PVR functions, 3D pictures, BBC iPlayer

Single Freeview tuner, 2D-to-3D conversion, no multichannel 7.1 outputs

The high price and heavyweight size will put many off, but this 3D Blu-ray player-cum-HDD recorder’s combination of unusual features make it a niche product extraordinaire. Top quality 3D is the icing on an enticing high-end package that marries BBC...

Samsung's much-delayed combination includes both a twin-tuner Freeview HD PVR and a 3D Blu-ray player. Picture quality is great either way, while Samsung's Smart Hub portal provides you with a massive reserve of online entertainment to play with. Read...

Samsung BD-D8500M review

Combination set-top boxes make a lot of sense; they take up less room under a TV than separates, need fewer cables and consume less power. Samsung's BD-D8500M combines a Blu-ray player, Freeview HD decoder and 500GB hard disk recorder into a single...

An amazingly extensive feature set and excellent user interface make the BD-D8500M a fantastic all-in-one set-top box, but the single-channel recording is disappointing.

We take an exclusive look at Samsung's new Blu-ray player/Freeview HD recorder, and marvel at its mind-blowing feature list.

Lengthy feature list ; Excellent Internet and DLNA functionality ; Blu-ray & HD channel picture quality

Sluggish in operation ; Smart Hub needs more catch-up TV content ; Can?t record two channels simultaneously

All things considered, the BD-D8500 is a mind-blowing product. Few Blu-ray players can match its staggeringly generous range of features, which includes Freeview HD recording, built-in Wi-Fi, 3D playback and easy-to-use networking tools. Most...

Nice hardware, shame about the software.

Nice hardware, shame about the software. If all you want for your £380 plus is a Blueray player with some TV recording capacity bolted on than this is the machine for you. Otherwise here is a list of things that the twin tuner BD-D8500M will not let...

easy to set up and use, stylish looking, so far it's done everything I want it to

can't seem to get 4OD, when I try and use the internet search function it doesn't help. Better instructions on this function would be beneficial however there is a helpline phone number which I plan to try
