Samsung BD-P1600

Since entering the Blu-ray disc player game three years ago, Samsung has upped the ante with each subsequent generation by improving performance, adding extra features, and lowering prices. The BD-P1600 ($299.99 list) continues this trend as Samsung's...

Fast start-up. Supports Netflix and Pandora multimedia streaming. Updated remote and menus

Add-on memory required for BD-Live support. Minor BD Live compatibility issue

The Samsung BD-P1600 is a capable Blu-ray player that features a compelling selection of multimedia streaming abilities.

Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-Ray Review

Very good imaging on Blu-ray discs ; Netflix and Pandora streaming

Annoying flap covers front panel controls ; Disappointing imaging on DVDs

Despite incorporating a few bone-headed design decisions, the Samsung BD-P1600 is a very good player for its price.

Samsung BD-P1600

Samsung was the first manufacturer with a standalone Blu-ray player, but in 2008 it often felt like the company was struggling to keep up with Panasonic. When Panasonic released the first Profile 2.0 player, Samsung was still shipping Profile 1.1...

Excellent image quality on Blu-ray movies; Netflix and Pandora streaming; speedy load times and operational speed; Profile 2.0 compliant; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio; Wi-Fi compatible, with purchase of USB dongle

Design marred by an annoying flip-down panel; Wi-Fi dongle is very expensive

The Samsung BD-P1600 has a great mix of features and performance for a standalone Blu-ray player, with only its annoying design holding it back.

Review: Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray player

This Blu-ray player has an annoying front-panel cover, but offers terrific color performance and even has streaming video options.

Very good imaging on Blu-ray discs ; Netflix and Pandora streaming

Annoying flap covers front panel controls ; Disappointing imaging on DVDs

On the other hand, the BD-P1600 didn't fare well with standard-definition DVDs, which the player must upconvert to 1080p

Samsung BD-P1600

One of Samsung's latest Blu-ray DVD players, the P1600, is a media powerhouse that delivers good picture quality along side some excellent multimedia extras. It offers Netflix and Pandora streaming via the Internet as well as full 1080p resolution with...

Netflix and Pandora streaming ; Quick start-up times ; Excellent 1080p video processing ; Inexpensive

No internal memory for BD-Live, thumbdrive required ; Upconverting is a little sketchy

You'll definitely want to look into getting the Samsung BD-P1600 if you are at Netflix subscriber to take advantage of its Watch Instantly capabilities. All you need is an active Netflix account and a broadband connection (the faster, the better) and...

Samsung BD-P 1600

The Samsung BD-P 1600 is a Blu-ray player, on the market since spring 2009. Half a year after its release, the player's price has dropped significantly to around just 140 GBP.

Excellent HDTV picture with 24p ; Automatic film-mode detection for DVDs ; Bitstream HD audio

Disc drive is too loud ; Poor photo display

All in all, the Samsung BD-P 1600 is an excellent - and cheap - Blu-ray player for entry-level users. The easy operation and speedy disc drive impressed, but the drive isn't exactly quiet, and photos play back in only mediocre quality. There could also...

"Used Less Than 20 times,Quit Working"

Look at other brands.

Takes forever to boot up,takes forever to read a disc.Thats the good points.

It quit playing blu ray disc's 2 days after the warranty elapsed, and then died all together a month after that.Typical Samsung junk and service.

"Disappointed - lack of too many functions"
