Samsung UBD-K8500

It's taken years, but ultra high-definition (UHD, or 4K) video finally has a standardized physical media. Ultra HD Blu-ray is a new disc format that supports not only 4K, but high dynamic range (HDR) video and advanced surround sound formats as well....

Fast. Ultra HD Blu-ray titles look sharp, especially with HDR. Solid upconversion. Good connected features

Expensive. Lacks Dolby Atmos and DTS-X support. Screen mirroring was inconsistent in testing

The Samsung UBD-K8500 is quite quick and feature-rich for one of the first consumer 4K Blu-ray players available, but it will cost you.

Samsung UBD-K8500 review

The first Blu-ray player, Samsung's BD-P1000 , launched in 2006 for the price of $1,000.

The Samsung UBD-K8500 has a reasonable price for being the first of its kind. It can play back 4K Blu-ray discs with HDR, delivering the best video quality available today. The player offers quick loading times and has plenty of streaming apps...

Unless you have an HDR-capable TV, the improvement in video quality over standard Blu-ray and streaming is minimal. Only a handful of 4K titles are available today, and some showed minor video quality issues themselves. The remote control can sometimes...

The Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Blu-ray player delivers the best in-home video quality ever, but only owners of the latest, most expensive TVs need apply.

Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

It's been a long time coming but Ultra HD Blu-ray is finally here, and as ever Samsung is leading the charge. The UBD-K8500 is the Korean company's first 4K player and finds itself in a two-way tussle with the Panasonic DMP-UB900 – a throwback to 2006...

Samsung’s debut UHD Blu-ray deck is an impressive machine, offering dazzling 4K pictures and loads of features for a lower price than you might expect – although Panasonic’s pricier rival offers a better performance.

Shocker that Samsung actually sells this. Sorry Sony - please forgive me! I'll come back!

I bought the K8500 to go with my Samsung 60" 8000 series TV. Been a Sony loyalist for 40 years, thought I'd try Samsung, on a whim. I figured Samsung would naturally pair the K8500 nicely with the 8000 TV - nope. My regrets at having "strayed" from the...

See the difference

See the difference. I uploaded 2 images, one side is a blu ray screen shot, the other half is 4K UHD .. You can see the difference. Also this blu ray player upscale blu rays very well. It is very spicy in price right now but i am glad to get it.

No problems with playing UHD Blu Ray Discs, nice picture on my 4k tv. However, Every movie weather it be UHD Blu Ray or regular Blu ray, shows on my 50" TV with black border Bars on top and bottom, and there is NO WAY in picture settings to change...

Must have for any home entertainment setup

Was looking forward to getting my Sony x930c to reach its full potential but with streaming content it was good but not the best; then I purchased this and some 4K blu Rays and I'm blown away. Movies look amazing! I couldn't be happier with my set up,...
