Sony BDP-S480

The Sony BDP-S480, one of four blu-ray players in Sony's 2011 line, is a step up from the entry level BDP-S380 by offering 3D playback in full HD.

While the Sony BDP-S480 might not win any design awards, it is nevertheless still a consummate looking blu-ray player. For a mid-priced blu-ray player, the BDP-S480 delivers top notch video quality in 3D and 2D. Disc load times are blazingly fast and...

Sony BDP-S480 Blu-ray player

The Sony BDP-S480 sits in the middle of Sony's line-up -- it's $30 more expensive than the cheap Sony BDP-S380, but this small price premium gets you ...

Plenty of Blu-ray and streaming video features ; iOS/Android controller app is good ; Low price

Main menu system is slightly slow ; Web browsing is poor

The Sony BDP-S480 has almost everything you could want in a Blu-ray player. It's reasonably quick to operate and incorporates plenty of video on demand services. Extra features in the form of 3D playback and an iOS/Android controller app justify its...

Sony BDP-S480 review

The BDP-S480 offers so much on-tap entertainment, you may never spin a disc

Rich, detailed picture quality ; SACD compatibility

Slower disc loading ; No downloadable apps

Sony BDP-S480

Sony's BDP-S570 player was a runaway hit during 2010, hoovering up more awards than the clean-up crew at the BAFTAs – so this closely related follow-up has a lot to live up to.

Rich, detailed picture quality; SACD compatibility

Slower disc loading; no downloadable apps

Sony BDP-S480

Attractive features and killer HD pictures make Sony's step-up Blu-ray spinner an excellent purchase

Top-drawer picture quality ; DLNA, 3D and BRAVIA Internet Video support ; Easy to use

No built-in Wi-Fi ; Slower disc loading than previous models ; Web browsing

The BDP-S480 offers the same line-up of sockets as the S380. Joining the crucial HDMI port on the back panel is a set of component video outputs, alongside the usual composite video, stereo audio and coaxial digital outputs. An Ethernet port is...

Sony BDP-S480 review

The Sony BDP-S480 is a steal at its current price. As well as premium 3D Blu-ray playback capability, it offers tonnes of other great features, including access to the Bravia Internet Video Web portal.

Great hi-def picture quality ; Super Audio CD support ; Access to Bravia Internet Video Web portal

Slower disc-loading times than 2010 models ; Quick-start mode is a power hog

The Sony BDP-S480 is a fine Blu-ray player, with more than enough charms to warrant a place on your shortlist. We love its Web features, Super Audio CD compatibility and improved file support. Its reduced disc-loading speed is odd, though, and the loss...

Sony BDP-S480

The BDP-S480 isn't a high-priced Blu-ray player, but it's a decent quality one.

iOS and Android apps to control ; Range of IPTV options ; 3D Blu-ray compatible ; Media streaming options ; Qriocity support

Sluggish response on Xross Media Bar ; Web browser is woeful ; Not region-free

If you're after an entry-level player with a decent feature set, and don't require the apps and whistles of the mid- to high-end players, then this is a solid buy.

Excellent device

Very nice addition to my HD 3D experience. My Sony HD TV has wi-fi, so having this with wifi was redunfdant, so saved some bucks without the wi-fi feature on this Blu-Ray player

Great Picture

Too long to "warm-up

Just OK

The player does work, but setting up streaming was a pain, especially since I had to drive an hour each way to buy a wireless USB because I wasn't told I would need one before purchasing. The wireless USB does not have the best reception as well: the...

It works

Wireless USB not incuded, lack of speed

works ok after installing the adapter

•USB Wi-Fi Ready : Yes (UWA-BR100 adapter not supplied) Wish I had read the specs more thoroughly before purchasing a WI-Fi ready and not WI-Fi already built in to it. I had to purchase the above mentioned adapter and it then let me set it up in a...
