Sony BDP-S570 Universal Blu-ray Player

After seeing the debut of the new Sony Blu-ray player lineup at CES this year, I was excited to get a chance to try one out. Taking its place at the top of the non-ES single-disc Blu-ray player lineup, the BDP-S570, boasts WiFi, Netflix, Pandora, and...

Even more importantly, this player was just fun to use. How many products do I actually come away from saying that? Even some of the best performing gear I have reviewed hasn’t actually been enjoyable to use. That is not the case here. And, with the...

Sony BDP-S570 Blu-Ray Review - PCWorld

Well designed and extremely fast to operate

Disappointing image quality

The Sony BDP-S570 looks great on paper, but in our tests its on-screen results were mixed.

Sony BDP-S570

If your HDTV lacks the many interactive Web services featured on many of today's new sets, fear not; Sony's future-3D-capable BDP-S570 Blu-ray player ($249.99 list) has you covered. This versatile player not only delivers a pristine high-definition...

Excellent HD picture quality. Solid SD quality. Speedy load times. Integrated Wi-Fi. Netflix, Amazon, Slacker and YouTube streaming. Will support 3D playback via a firmware upgrade later this year. 1GB of on-board memory

Limited front player controls. Remote control is not illuminated

With integrated Wi-Fi, plenty of interactive Web features, and future 3D support, Sony's BDP-S570 Blu-Ray player checks all the right boxes. And it's a disc-loading speed demon with excellent HD picture quality.

Sony BDP-S570

Very good Blu-ray image quality; 3D Blu-ray compatible; Netflix, Amazon VOD, Pandora, YouTube, and Slacker media streaming; built-in Wi-Fi; fastest operational speed we've tested; SACD playback; 1GB onboard storage.

Inconsistent streaming-video performance using Wi-Fi; some very minor image quality nitpicks.

The Sony BDP-S570 has all the features of other midrange Blu-ray players, plus future 3D support and best-in-class operational speed, but its streaming-video performance over Wi-Fi is spotty.

Sony BDP-S570

While there are more Blu-Ray players slated for release soon, the Sony BDP-S570 is an advanced but affordable model that consumers looking to upgrade should definitely consider. Despite a few minor firmware flaws, the performance of this device is...

Versatile- offers the latest 3D Blu-Ray compatibilityPricey- expensive compared to others but worth the costStreamlined- integrated wireless-LAN and 1GB storage impressPremium- gives the consumer the highest quality images and audio

Limited- still lacks features that similar competing models offer

The BDP-S570 is slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor but...

Review: Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray player

The Sony BDP-S570 looks great on paper, but its on-screen results in our tests were mixed.

Though the player handled detailed, color-rich images quite well, it struggled when presented with our black-and-white film and when given less detail to work with

Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu-ray Player Review

For a long time, Sony's been struggling with a good problem to have regarding their standalone Blu-ray decks. It doesn't matter if their quality strong, the reaction time decent, and the supplemental specifics pleasing to the eye, they always have to...

Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray Player Reviewed

Sony's new BDP-S570 offers worthwhile features like integrated WiFi, DLNA streaming, and the BRAVIA Internet Video platform, plus an iPhone/iPod control app. This "3D-ready" player doesn't currently support 3D playback but will do so after a future...

The BDP-S570 is 3D-ready. A future firmware update will allow the player to transport 3D Blu-ray content to compatible TVs

The BDP-S570 lacks multichannel analog audio outputs, so it's not thebest choice for someone who owns an older, non-HDMI A/V receiver ; This player lacks an advanced control port like RS-232

The BDP-S570's 3D-readiness may be its marquee feature, but this $250Blu-ray player is also loaded with worthwhile features that you canenjoy right now. In addition to Blu-ray features like BD-Live,high-resolution audio decoding, internal memory, and...
