Sony BDP-S580

The Sony BDP-S580 has built-in Wi-Fi and more streaming services than all competing Blu-ray players, but its user interface is mediocre.

The Sony BDP-S580 is a faster-than-average Blu-ray player and its exterior design is one of our favorites. The BDP-S580 has built-in Wi-Fi and the best current lineup of streaming-media services, including Netflix, Amazon Instant, Hulu Plus, Vudu,...

The BDP-S580's user interface can be tedious to navigate. And even once you load a streaming service like Netflix, Sony's custom interface displays small cover art that can be tough to read. The BDP-S580 also lacks the popular MLB.TV service, as well...

Sony BDP-S580 3D Blu-ray Disc Player

Built-in Wi-Fi. 3D support. Lots of integrated online media services. Lacks on-board memory.

Slow to load BD-Live discs. Flimsy-feeling remote.

Slow BD-Live disc loading times hold back this otherwise excellent, full-featured Blu-ray player.

Sony BDP-S580 3D Blu-ray Player

You know that new hi-fi technology has finally reached the commodity stage when you can get a basic model on the cheap. Sony?s latest Blu-ray player is the BDP-S580, and at $199.99, it even is 3D-capable.

Overall, the Sony BDP-S580 was definitely a disappointment. From the get-go, it’s slim construction and poorly designed buttons gave the unit a cheap feel. Then to find out that this newer model was actually slower than the S570 and did not include any...

Sony BDP-S580 Blu-ray Player Reviewed

Sony continues to release Blu-ray players that are packed with features, and the BDP-S580 Blu-ray player is no exception. HTR Reviewer Adrienne Maxwell takes a look at the BDP-S580 to see how it measures up against its contemporaries....

The BDP-S580 supports 3D playback ; It supports BD-Live and BonusView/PIP ; It has internal decoding and bitstream output of high-resolution audio sources ; The player has integrated WiFi and supports a wide variety of online media services, including...

This 3D model does not include dual HDMI outputs to send separate signals to your 3D TV and A/V receiver, and it doesn't support 2D-to-3D conversion ; It also lacks multichannel analog audio outputs, so it's not the best choice for someone who owns an...

The BDP-S580 is a full-featured Blu-ray player offered at a very competitive price. In addition to 3D playback, you get integrated WiFi, SACD playback, DLNA media streaming, and a thorough assortment of Web services. You also get a few perks that I've...

Sony BDP-S580 review: Built-in Wi-Fi makes this Blu-ray player convenient, but the price is steep

The Sony BDP-S580 adds only Wi-Fi over the BDP-S480, and comes at a $50 price premium. While it adds convenience we don't think this small inclusion is worthy of its pricetag. Otherwise, it's a competent and powerful Blu-ray player that has the added...

Good design, As many features as any other BD player

High price over BDP-S480 just for Wi-Fi

Sony BDP-S580 Blu-ray Player

It hasn't taken long for 3D Blu-ray players to become affordable for the mainstream, but is going for a relatively cheap option going to work in the long run? We grabbed hold of the Sony BDP-S580 to find out….

With a huge array of features and excellent picture quality, there’s plenty to love about the Sony BDP-S580 Blu-ray player. The clunky interface is a pain, but if you think your time using it will be just a fraction of the time you spend watching...

"My favorite new toy. I Love it, Second best to my DVR."

This is a very enjoyable piece of technology. It is an Awsome all in one toy.The remote has been upgraded to include a Netflix button, since Cnet review. The pros outway the cons. The S-580 has more content than other smart blu-rays, and is cheaper. I...

Netflix plays great. Never had any wireless problems, but my router is close to the system. I enjoy having so many online options on my tv. Love all in one DVD,blu-ray,Netflix,HuluPlus,youtube,Crackle, etc without tv tuner.

Hate having to use the number keys to type in my searches for youtube and netflix.Takes way too long. Need the smart phone remote. You can't search actors on Netflix, only movie names. I recommend going online to Netflix and Hulu to set up your Queue.

"Great Blu-ray! No problem"

I bought it for the WiFi, which does not have a range like a laptop, but does just fine.

I don't like the interface very much.
