Sony BDP-S590

Shopping for a Blu-ray player has changed considerably over the past couple of years. In the past, as you stepped up the model ladder, you gained features such as Internet apps, network media streaming and HD audio decoding. Now those features are...

Built-in Wi-Fi ; Quick navigation ; Intuitive interface ; Superior connectivity

Funky shape ; Easily marred top surface ; Initial setup hassles

If you can get past the quirky shape and some initial setup hassle, the Sony BDP-S590 is a terrific Blu-ray player and a solid value.

No matter how you feel about Sony, it's hard to deny that the company has a knack for product design. The Sony BDP-S590 ($140 street price) falls right in line with that tradition, as it's the only Blu-ray player I've seen this year that actually looks...

The Sony BDP-S590 has built-in Wi-Fi, 3D compatibility, and an ample suite of streaming-media services, including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant, Pandora, and Vudu. It's also the sleekest Blu-ray player I've seen this year, with a well-designed...

Sony's user interface isn't as intuitive as those from some competitors, especially the interfaces for Amazon Instant and Hulu Plus. It's also relatively slow at loading discs, taking almost twice as long as some competitors.

The Sony BDP-S590 is a great-looking Blu-ray player with built-in Wi-Fi, 3D compatibility, and tons of streaming-media apps, but it's slow to load discs and has some user interface quirks.

In the current Blu-ray player market, the winner is decided by inches, not miles. We've seen a wave of affordable (sub-$150) players full of useful features with great performance, and it's the small details that separate the good Blu-ray players from...

Supports 3D. Built-in Wi-Fi. Quick performance

Slight video processing issues. Controls on player feel awkward

The Sony BDP-S590 is a good Blu-ray player, but a few minor quirks hold it back.

The Sony BDP-S590 is a good Blu-ray player, with built-in Wi-Fi, 3D support, and fast performance. It has a few minor video processing issues, and its on-player controls feel flimsy, keeping it from the top-tier. At $129.99, however, it's a solid...

"Excellent Blu ray Player."

I bought this player as a replacement for my S570. It was easy to set up right out of the box and was up and running fast. This player has internet features galore from Netflix, Vudu, Hulu Plus you name it it has it. The PQ quality was outstanding as...

PQ, Audio, Features Galore.

No problems at all.

Got this at Best buy last night. Was able to set it up to play a dvd in less then 10 mins from box to watching. After the movie I connected the wifi to my network and was able to stream from my network storage with no issues. Nice price point and easy...

One of the main features I want in a Blu-ray player is the streaming media support. DLNA provides streaming from local sources (I have a PVR and would like to watch it in another room). The product packaging listed this player as being DLNA certified....

"Not a Techie Blu Ray Player"

Overall I am disappointed with this product, I am not sure why this is getting thumbs up from every site.

Sleek and Simple

Lacks quite a bit of technical features such as auto-suggest on youtube videos, slow in loading discs, slow in playing netflix movies, not easy to connect to youtube accounts.

"This machine is total junk! I would never recommend it!"

To add insult to injury tech support didn't even know they released an update, and kept refering me to a link to an older version of their firmware.

Many cool applications if they worked.

Machine immediately converts itself from a Blueray player to a paper weight as it is worthless for online use when the machine decides it needs an update to the firmware. This generally takes 5-10 min and fails 98% of the time's attempted.

"Great Paper Weight!!!"

This Sony is just a total piece of junk. Great for keeping the wind from blowing papers off your desk but not worth your time to use as a DVD player. This is the second one I brought home as I thought the first, which I returned was defective. Turns...

Nothing except it makes a nice paper weight.

Does not work.
