Sony BDP-S590

The Sony BDP-S590 is a good Blu-ray player, but a few minor quirks hold it back.

Supports 3D. Built-in Wi-Fi. Quick performance.

Slight video processing issues. Controls on player feel awkward.

Sony BDP-S590 review

No matter how you feel about Sony, it's hard to deny that the company has a knack for product design. The Sony BDP-S590 ($140 street price) falls right in line with that tradition, as it's the only Blu-ray player I've seen this year that actually looks...

The Sony BDP-S590 has built-in Wi-Fi, 3D compatibility, and an ample suite of streaming-media services, including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant, Pandora, and Vudu. It's also the sleekest Blu-ray player I've seen this year, with a well-designed...

Sony's user interface isn't as intuitive as those from some competitors, especially the interfaces for Amazon Instant and Hulu Plus. It's also relatively slow at loading discs, taking almost twice as long as some competitors.

The Sony BDP-S590 is a great-looking Blu-ray player with built-in Wi-Fi, 3D compatibility, and tons of streaming-media apps, but it's slow to load discs and has some user interface quirks.

Sony BDP-S590

The Sony BDP-S590 is a good Blu-ray player, with built-in Wi-Fi, 3D support, and fast performance. It has a few minor video processing issues, and its on-player controls feel flimsy, keeping it from the top-tier. At $129.99, however, it's a solid...

Sony BDP-S590 Blu-ray 3D PlayerReview

The Swiss Army Knife of Blu-ray players, packed with surprises for a very affordable price.

Sony's BDP-S590 seems a little on the small side, but wow wee -- they certainly packed a lot into this little player. It offers a mind-boggling amount of entertainment. Of course, it's still a Blu-ray player first and foremost, and it does that very...

Sony BDP-S590

Low price and great features combine to make the Sony BDP-S590 a great-value smart Blu-ray player.

Very good DVD/Blu-ray picture performance ; Good range of smart functions ; Excellent value for money ; Wi-Fi for convenient connectivity

Ideally should have force film mode for video processing

In the end, the Sony BDP-S590 is pretty much at the ideal price point and feature level. It has all the basics and most of the advanced stuff to fulfill most people's needs, yet still costs less than AU$200.

"Great, while it lasted"

If this is Sony's top product, and their warranty is this bad(service anyway)I think I'll look at another brand. Good Bye Sony

Easy set up, up and working in no time

Lasted about 5 months, could no longer access Netflix, was told by Geek squad it had a bad NIC they offered to send it out. Haven't seen it since, was told on more than one occasion that the vendor still has it, but no one knows what's going on

"This is the coolest piece of equipment I have."

To top it off NewEgg won't refund or exchange it because "SONY" no longer has replacement parts. "Unfortunately, our records indicate that the manufacturer's parts warranty for this product has expired. Please contact the product manufacturer for...

It does everything.

I took stars off for my own stupidity. Had I known I couldn't play a reserve copy of my own, I would not have purchased it. I'm not making $2000 a month selling copies I'm trying to save $25 a pop every time someone uses it for a Frisbee.
