Vizio XWR100 dual-band wireless router review

Though categorized as an accessory specifically for home entertainment devices from Vizio, the XWR100 wireless router will more than satisfy users with any wireless networking needs. In fact, if it supported Gigabit Ethernet, it'd be one of the best...

The Vizio XWR100 Dual Band HD Wireless Internet Router offers solid performance and a user-friendly Web interface. The router supports true dual-band, USB external hard drives, is easy to use, and comes in an aesthetically pleasing design.

The Vizio XWR100 doesn't support Gigabit Ethernet. Its network storage function can't write to external hard drives formatted in NTFS file system. The Web interface offers limited customization of its settings and features.

The Vizio XWR100 Dual Band HD Wireless Internet Router is arguably one of the best sub-$100 wireless routers on the market, and it's a must-have for those with network-ready home entertainment devices from Vizio.

This might possibly be the world's best wireless router, at the moment

I'm living in South Korea, where Internet is insanely fast and cheap. My area is over-crowded on the 2.4GHz band, so my older wireless N router was having a problem keeping a steady connection. I decided to upgrade to a dual-band router to ...

Cheap, 110/220V, dual-band, easy to set up, good signal strength, reliable, cheap

Setup Menus are a bit over-simplified for my tastes. But I can live with that

Very good router

I've seen the other reviews and just speaking for myself, this router has been a good investment for me especially for the $25 & free shipping I paid for it. I have only had this router for 2 days so I will write more later if there are problems.

Easy set-up, haven't had to reset, my old router I had to reset twice a day. No problems with range, runs computer and media without buffering.

None so far at this time.

Great deal for the price I paid.

I paid $20 for a store demo model without a power supply. At that price it was a steal.

Easy to set up and configure. Doesn't drop connections or need to be reset regularly. Dual Band, supports 3 networks: 5GHz, 2.4 GHz and a legacy/guest 2.4 GHz. Pretty good range when used in a big, old house.

Doesn't give access to low level settings and has limited configuration options. USB sharing with R/W access limited to FAT32 formatted devices. Lan switch is only 10/100.

Good Cheap, Dual band.

To those complaining of the router freezing or dropping the connection, I have discovered if you untick the "optimize for video" check button in the settings menu. This will fix the problem, atleast it did for me. I haven't had any problems with the...

Good Cheap, Dual band, Good signal strength

Has some firmware issues. Haven't seen an update since I've bought it (over a year ago).

I want to give it a 5, but it freezes constantly.

I wouldn't recommend it. It would be a 5 for almost all users if the firmware was updated/it didn't constantly need to be restarted.

Easy to set up. Looks nice. Duel-band is nice.

Settings are almost too simple. If you want to do more advanced things with it, good luck. It freezes/overheats at least once a week. It probably needs a firmware update - it hasn't been updated as long as I've had the router, close to 6 months now.

Under consideration

A month ago I would have given this 5 stars. Perhaps it will be OK in the future.

When it works, it is great.

I have had it for about 6 months. In the lat 4-6 weeks, the wireless signal drops off. I REBOOT by removing the power and then restarting. It has happened 3 times in the last month. Works great with my wireless Sony Blu-Ray.

VIZIO XWR100 Dual-Band HD Wireless Internet Router

So far the router has upheld great speeds and great range throughout the entire house. I have not had any issues with signal dropping or losing connections. Highly recommended!
