Canon DC40

Very good video quality. Decent 4-megapixel stills. Variety of special modes and features for both stills and video

Significant shutter lag in auto mode. Video has a slight color cast. Reviewing still images is slow

Although performance needs to improve, the Canon DC40 is one of the first miniDVD camcorders to let you shoot decent stills.

Attractive, functional design; solid build quality; very decent daytime and surprisingly solid low-light video quality; broad set of semimanual photo and video controls.

Small LCD; uses Mini SD cards rather than standard SD; blinding video light; no S-Video input for converting analog video to DVDs.

The Canon DC40 definitely deserves a spot on your short list of DVD camcorders.

The DC40 is an excellent DVD video camera.

Crisp images, better than most DVD camcorders, good stills

Over-exposed images, poor battery life
