Canon DC100 review: Canon DC100

Although it's hardly the polar opposite, the Canon DC100 DVD camcorder is a very different beast from the Canon DC40 that I like so much. In addition to the obvious dissimilarities--the DC100's longer 25X zoom lens, lower-resolution 680,000-pixel...

Fast focusing, long zoom lens; solid image stabilization; decent low-light video; aperture- and shutter-priority exposure modes.

Fair-to-middling video quality overall; awkward navigation controls; poor still photos.

Good for point-and-shooters, - Good still feature set

Lackluster video performance vs. the Canon DC100 and Panasonic VDR-D100, - Enclosed battery compartment, - Inconvenient control location

Above average video quality is countered by a lack of an SD card slot and poor quality stills on this DVD camcorder. A good option for the buyer on a tight budget.

Better image quality than we see on many low priced DVD camcorders, a few manual controls

No USB connection, no SD card slot, still images not that hot
