Canon DC100

The DC100 digital camcorder gives you all the convenience and functionality of DVD technology. It lets you record directly to DVDs, and lets you shoot and share video through a variety of options. Only 3" in diameter, the DC100's DVD-R/-RW discs are...

Canon DC100

Light for a camcorder at just a hair over a pound, the DC100 fits comfortably into medium-size hands, with thumb and forefinger falling naturally into position atop the most important controls.

Fast focusing, long zoom lens; solid image stabilization; decent low-light video; aperture- and shutter-priority exposure modes.

Fair-to-middling video quality overall; awkward navigation controls; poor still photos.

A basic, inexpensive DVD camcorder, the Canon DC100 is a safe, if unremarkable, choice.

Canon DC100 Camcorder Review

Canon doubled its DVD line recently with two new models, the DC40, and a new entry-level, the DC100. Entry level models often have a difficult time distinguishing themselves from the pack: they must be easy enough for the novice but have the solid...

Horrible Still photos, grainy movies

I've had this camera for a year and thought perhaps I had a defective model with the horrible quality stills I get from it. I have never had a crisp photo, regardless of settings. I do appreciate it for the movies, this is a good price for a movie...

Lightweight, fits into hand well

Plugin required to finalize discs, no flash for stills

"Cheap and cheerful!"

I bought this camcorder new for under $150.00 bucks. So far I have filmed a wedding, a bahamas vacation, a road trip in southern Mexico and some surfing sessions with good results. Editing was a mess since the formats are not easy to handle on a PC....

CHEAP, ease of use.

not for a pro or serious videographer

"Both my Canon camcorders broke down after few months"

I owned two Canon camcorders - a ZR60 and now the DC100 - and both failed after a few months. The ZR60's charging unit had to be replaced, then the CCD matrix failed and Canon recalled the models for free repair.

Small, slick, easy to operate

Recording unit and main circiut failed after few months; no USB cable

Product Specifications

Canon DC100 ultra compact DVD camcorder combines one-push high resolution true widescreen shooting and 16: 9 wide LCD, with a powerful 25x optical zoom, DIGIC DV and still image capture to disc. The DC100 offers convenient recording straight to DVD (-R/-RW), shooting eye-catching video and great looking digital photos is easy - simply transfer the finalized disc to your home player. The DC100 is ready to record high-resolution true widescreen 16: 9 movies. It features a color viewfinder and a wide 2.7" LCD screen, allowing video footage to be monitored exactly as it will appear on a widescreen TV set. The LCD includes a level marker to help center the horizon. Switching between 16: 9 widescreen and 4: 3 shooting modes is easy and done at the push of a single button. A powerful, precision-engineered 25x optical zoom delivers great looking footage. While Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) eliminates unwanted vibration, a range of different zoom speeds is available for greater control. Thanks to Canon's DIGIC DV processor, separate signal paths are provided for video and stills, ensuring that colors are optimized and remain vivid and vibrant for each. In a smooth and rounded body, the compact DC100 is perfectly portable. The DC100's lens is always protected thanks to a convenient sliding lens cover incorporated into the camcorder's body.
