Canon Legria HF R106 review

Cheap and mostly cheerful, the Canon Legria HF R106 is by no means perfect, but it's certainly one of the best camcorder options available in the sub-£250 price bracket.

Good value ; Well-built body ; 20x optical zoom ; Easy to use ; smart auto' makes it even easier

Poor photo quality ; Grainy video in low light ; No HDMI cable

Of all Canon's entry-level R-series camcorders, the Legria HF R106 is definitely the one to go for. Its picture quality isn't perfect, but this is reflected in its low price, which, unlike the Legria HF R18, isn't inflated by the inclusion of costly...

Canon Legria HF R106 review

The HF R106 is Canon's cheapest AVCHD camera. It doesn't look like a budget model, thanks to its petite, curvy design that's in keeping with Canon's more upmarket cameras. There are various omissions that distinguish it from these pricier models, though.

No major flaws but lacking in various key areas. Plus, it's more expensive than many superior video cameras

Canon Legria HF R106 review

Canon makes a wide range of video cameras, from sub-£500 models like this Canon Legria HF R106 to professional recording equipment for broadcasters.

A camcorder first and foremost, the Canon Legria HF R106 is the camcorder to buy if high-definition video is your primary intention. Other models offer reasonable HD video capture and throw in still photo functions too, but the Canon is the best at...

Camcorder is OK

It is a very simple product, nothing too fancy. However software attached with the camera is way too complicated. Besides battery life is not as long, as I would hoped for. Customer service was fantastic!

Fantastic picture quality

Purchased this camcorder sometime ago. Its small, smart & very easy to point & shoot. Picture quality is very very good, vibrant clear shooting on HD shows every blade of grass. Our youngest Grand daughter has now claimed it as her own, she loves it....

Good all rounders

Not so good in dark situations and the compensation for movement of the camera can sometimes go a bit off when it's still (just switch the compensation off if that's the case) but otherwise great bit of kit. Definitely worth the money.

Fantastic, lightweight, superb quality HD

After opening the box I charged the battery & off I went around our home. Just a few simple set ups & setting in full HD I recorded a little footage, I coupled up to the tv with HDMI cable not supplied & watched what I had recorded. (FANTASTIC)...

Confusing and useless

I don't know whether it's the camera or my computer but there is absolutely no way to upload the files onto my laptop. In theory this is a good camera - playback on the screen shows HD videos with high quality audio. However, the file saving system...
