Canon Optura 600

This camcorder is very small and portable, has plenty of buttons for easy operation, and sports a bright LCD.

Optura 600 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

The upright design of the Canon Optura 600 ($1100 as of 5/2/06) means that it's the most portable camcorder we looked at: It would fit into a coat pocket or a small purse without causing too much of a bulge.

At $1100, the Canon Optura 600 is one of the most expensive camcorders we reviewed--you're paying a large premium for the small size. Nonetheless, it provides a lot of features, delivers reasonably good video quality, and can double as a decent still...

Canon Optura 600

There's no question we're overwhelmed by gadgets. To simplify our lives a bit, manufacturers are creating devices that do double or triple duty like the Treo 650 cell phone/PDA. Other examples are camcorders that tout their digital still attributes, so...

Good MiniDV quality; terrific 4MP stills

Expensive; awkward shape

As of this date, this is the best iteration of combination camcorder/digital still camera I have tested.

Canon Optura 600 Camcorder Review

The Optura 600 represents the flagship of Canon's 1 chip MiniDV camcorders, the king of the Optura line. Retailing at around $1100 (up approximately $400 from the Optura 60), your money might be well-spent. The 600's huge 1/2.8" CCD promises excellent...

Camcorder Review: Canon Optura 600 Mini DV

Here's a camcorder with an imager that rivals the size of a single XL2 imager. If you're looking for a small, compact player that has a plethora of features, the Optura 600 is looking good

Big imager, beautiful results Manual audio levels Small and lightweight

Menu button placement New battery design (your old Canon batteries won't work) No accessory shoe

The Canon Optura 600 is a camcorder worth bragging about when it comes to the visual quality. While the onboard mic is not tops, the mic input and manual audio levels are not usually available on a camcorder at this level. This camcorder offers some of...

Canon Optura 600 camcorder review

The Canon Optura 600 Mini-DV camcorder is really two products in one. Although it may look like a camcorder on the outside, inside lies a high-quality 4.3 megapixel digital camera with all the features needed to take outstanding photos. The CCD in the...

Canon Optura 600

This is a wonderful camera. I loved the features and the still photos come out beautiful, Amazing for a camcorder. The video clarity is great. My only complaint was the design. It was awkward to hold, the controls are awkwardly placed...while filming...

Amazing video and great stills for a camcorder, small size for carrying with you easily. Records well in low light

controls are in awkward locations

Canon Optura 600

This is a really great camera! You can get nearly the best of both worlds - video and snapshot. If you're looking for one gadget to throw in a bag or jacket pocket that can serve your video and still image needs, this is the camcorder for you.

Sleek, excellent video, decent stills, lots of manual controls

Smalls size tough for big hands, iMovie HD users may have trouble
