So far, so good

Received the cameral last night. First thing I did was plug in the battery and try to fire it up. Usually, there is at least a little bit of juice in new batteries to at least fire things up and see that they work. Not in this case. Plugged in the...

Note: HF M500 Supports Remote Control

This is just a note, not a full review. This model can be remote controlled using Canon's WL-D89 wireless controller ($18) or a third party knock-off ($10). This is despite zero mention of remote control capability in Canon's marketing copy, or in the...

narrow field of view, extra purchase of wide angle lens needed

I was in the market for a new consumer camcorder after my Canon HV20 HDV camcorder passed away. I really liked the HV20 but its zoom lens had a severely limited field of view at the low end of the zoom range (~45mm equivalent) that required purchase of...

Sweet Camcorder

I've owed the HF M500 for a couple months now and must say this thing has wonderful video. The colors are vibrant and accurate to real life even in low light. The M500 is well worth the money it costs. When on fully automatic it does a terrific job,...

Great Camera for Price and Features

I own a Canon T3i DSLR camera and had been doing some shooting with that over the last year prior to wanting to buy a camcorder. The reason for buying a camcorder is that I wanted a simple easy to operate point and shoot kind of camera when I have less...

NO timestamp will upload to PC

NO timestamps will upload to PC; I will be glad to rewrite this if someone form Canon can tell me how to do this, but so far Canon has not helped at all. Canon has a decent a picture and not much else - this is the most un-user friendly camera (as are...

Great Value in a High-Tech Camcorder

I've been using compact HD cameras - the Kodak Zi8 & PlayTouch. I wanted a camcorder that would give me real optical zoom, better image stabilization, and the ability to manually set focus & white balance. I needed it to have a stereo mic input (like...

Good camera, one nagging flaw that should be remedied

The Vixia 500 is an excellent camera, very good video quality. Not the easiest to use but easy enough. Lots of bells and whistles which I don't use but you can have fun with it if you want. Although the photo quality is not great, it is good....

Affordable Camera with Satisfactory Video Quality.

Great video performance. But the camera may take a while (5 seconds) before it can record videos when turned on. Because the system is reading SD card. This is the only shortcoming I can think of.
